I have a plex server on my Mac running Big Sur. I play over my samsung TV Q70T just fine. The Mac is on wifi. the TV is connected directly to the router/modem.
I just bought a WD EX4100 NAS wich has a plex server and I connected it via ethernet to the Mac. It has internet access trough the Mac wifi.
When I go to the plex in the tv, both servers appear (each has its own folders and files), the Mac server play just fine. But when I choose the WD server it shows the movies and such but when I try to play it gives me play error. Occur an unexpected error.
I saw in the tv plex config that the Mac is connected directly and the WD is indirect.
I tried to play in the iPhone app and both servers work.
I don’t have Plex Pass.
Im not very savy in the network stuff. Any ideas?
Connect the WD NAS to your network via an Ethernet cable.
Routing the NAS connection through the Mac is causing the problem. It prevents your TV from communicating directly with the WD NAS. This is why the connection shows as Indirect.
Connecting a server via WiFi is never recommended. If possible, a server should be connected to the network via a wired Ethernet cable.
Yeah i did that and worked. It just because i was avoiding this location to put the nas that is near the router but in the middle of living room. Thanks anyway
