I’m recording OTA TV shows through HDHomerun Quatro to my Nvidia Shield Pro TV 2019. When I turn on closed captions in the show settings it says unknown (closed captions). There is no other option. I’ve selected “Automatically select audio and subtitle tracks” under languages. Sometimes I get CC and sometimes I don’t. If I do get them, I get horrible buffering because Shield is transcoding and I guess it can’t handle it.
Any help or is this a known issue?
I am having the exact same issue, Any thoughts?
The problem I am having on Nvidia is with “Closed Captions” on Live TV & DVR recordings. I have put in my OpenSubtitles.org username and password in the Shield-Agents-Shows-TheTVDB. On QNAP Plex, I get them. but I also have a Sub-Zero plugin. I haven’t figured out how to add plug-ins to Nvidia TV Pro (2019), if that even matters
.
VLC plays the files fine with closed captions. I can workaround by using airplay but it’s not the best way. Why is this so hard to provide? I’m sure there are others who need this service.
I am also getting these issues.
Doing a search on the forums, it seems many people have reported this issue, but it has never been resolved.
PMS on Nvidia Shield Pro (2019)
DVR Recording
Closed captions show as available (DVB_TELETEXT)
Once selected, the playback will crash.
Nvidia report that they have raised this issue with Plex back in January of this year:
https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/forums/shield-tv/9/291531/closed-captions-not-displaying-using-plex-media-pl/
This post in the forums listed the error logs, showing the issue, but he didn’t even get one response:
When will this bug be fixed? I think I will get my recent Lifetime purchase refunded.
In my mind, if VLC plays closed captions why can’t Plex?
