I live in Australia about 60km north of Sydney and can pickup FTA TV from 3 locations. Sydney, Central Coast and Newcastle.
I therefore require the TV Guides from these three locations to be able to have a complete guide. Entering my postcode/zip only partly fills the guide.
I am able to get the XMLTV guides from the three locations but now would I combine them into one guide? Or is there a better solution?
You can add EPG data from multiple locations when using Plex’s guide. However, it can only be done during initial DVR setup.
When you’re initially configuring the DVR, after entering your zip code and selecting your first lineup and mapping the channel, select the option “Add channels from another lineup/location.”
You can’t have the same channel in two different guides. For example, if your Sydney lineup has a channel 4, neither you Central Coast nor your Newcastle can have a channel 4. Or at least that’s how it used to be. To be honest, I haven’t used this functionality in a while so it’s possible that it changed (but I doubt it).
I just performed a quick test here and it looks like I was mistaken. I intentionally picked two guide sources with duplicate channels. Plex allowed me to save the configuration and pulled the guide data for both. I was also able to play both channels.
So, I’d recommend you give it a shot.
(Note: I only tested with two guide sources with overlaps. I’m not sure how it would handle three.)
Edit: I just tested with again with three guide sources. Each has a channel 4.1 which I assigned to three different channels on my HDHR. It worked as well.
EDIT2: Thought about getting the XML directly from the HDHR using a Python Script to create the XMLTV file and using that, but this would probably be better if it’s accurate.
