Why does Plex allow you to grab channel guides from multiple sources but you can't select them?

I have been beating my head against the wall on this one. I love the fact that you can add listings from multiple sources, but you can’t really implement them.

i.e., I have OTA access to channels from both here in Los Angeles as well as a configuration to get from another location. Both have a channel 9, but you can only use the first one you map. With a little experimenting, I saw the same if you wanted guide sources. I suspect this is a bigger issue with IPTV too. And I mean legal IPTV.

To me it seems that the developers should either ignore the mapped channel numbers in the EPG or append an ID that includes their source. i.e. DTV201 and Dish201 or something like that. Heck, I’d be happy with 01-201 and 02-201.

I assume this is a primary key issue and how the data is stored.

The idea of having multiple guides is not so you can access content from different areas, it’s meant to allow a larger coverage of the area you are in. i.e. You live on the border of Los Angeles but the guide for your zip code misses channels from the San Bernardino area, you can add the other guides to cover that direction. It is not meant to cover 2 entirely different areas like Los Angles and San Francisco.

Ya, I get it. But like area codes, where you get your content will eventually open up. With the emergence of IPTV … and yes, I mean the legal kind, this can get even more interesting. Likewise, countries outside the US have coast to coast access. I.e., in Canada, your service can provide you with channels from Vancouver, Ottawa, Toronto, etc. This is actually the use case that got me onto trying this, to help a friend. Their cable box and OTA tuners, both on HDHomeRun can’t work together. The digital channel alignments and their traditional mappings are overlapping.

This sounds like something that should be very doable. Just include two sources for the primary key in the database.

Sure maybe in the future this may be available, but for now, PMS does not support duplicate channel numbers or IPTV channels.

Correct, that is a configuration that is not supported at this time.
