I have been using PLEX for several years now, and have usually accessed it through a Roku Ultra device, or a TCL Roku TV. When I play an audio track in PLEX the tile that I have created always shows on screen when the specific track if played. This tile, or “poster”, has all the information that I need. And with my Roku Ultra installations and TCL Roku TV all is good.
However, I just purchased a Sony X900H 4K TV and loaded the PLEX app on it. I am using a Marantz SR5014 AVR with this installation. So, now when I play an audio track I get not only the tile/poster, but some additional text identifying the track name. I do not want this information to appear, as it clutters up my screen. I just am not sure whether it is the Sony TV or the Marantz AVR that is causing the problem.
I am wondering whether any participants in this forum have also run into this, and whether you have figured out the cause and a solution to make it go away.
I spoke with Marantz about this, and they are pointing the finger at Sony (of course they are, eh?).
Yes, Sony uses Android. My screen looks a lot like yours, but at the launch of any audio the name of the first track and a function bar (pause, advance, etc.) flashes up on the screen overlapping the poster. It looks awful, but usually disappears after a second or two. But sometimes it stays on the screen.
I think it must be the Sony TV that is doing it. It only happens with audio tracks, not with videos or photos. But, any time I press pause, the the name and function barr appear again.
Perhaps there is some setting in the Sony that will eliminate it, but I have not yet found it.
That is exactly whatit looks like. Usually, it flasehes up at the start of a set, then slides down and out of sight. But sometimes it just stays on screen. Even when a second track begins to play the overlay from the first track still shows. It is unattractive and annoying.
That’s Plex’s own player control bar, but I’ve never seen it behave as you describe. I also don’t have the specific devices you mention. I have a Roku 3 and an nVidia Shield (Android TV). I’m guessing the Sony TV Plex app is the Android TV app. It should appear when you call for it, and slide out of site until you call for it again. No idea what the problem is, but at least we have a clearer understanding of the behavior you’re seeing.
I’d suggest capturing the Plex log files and attach them to this thread for someone (more knowledgeable than me) to look at. Then try rebooting the Sony, and the machine hosting your Plex server. I think uninstalling/reinstalling should be a bit farther down the troubleshooting list.
In case you need it, this page shows how to enable and download log files:
This problem continues. I have recycled the Sony TV and my media server, but I am still having problems with the audio tracks not playing, and the PLEX app crashing.
I hope a fix will come soon. Thanks for your efforts.
Eureka! I have found (but not fixed) the problem. (Or so I think.)
I believe that I have found the cause of my problem with audio tracks not playing without PLEX Player for Android locking up and crashing.
Since I have been having this problem, I have been trying to play some new downloaded tracks I recently purchased on-line from 7 Digital. All these tracks are “high-resolution” files, recorded in 24/96 format. It would seem that some aspect of the PLEX Player for Android (at least on my Sony X900H TV) cannot handle these “high-res” files. These files are not only 24/96 format, they have been compressed as much as 55% by someone along the line. I am not sure whether it is the large file that PLEX-Android cannot handle . . . or whether PLEX is having difficulty dealing with the 24/96 format . . . or whether it is the file decompression process that PLEX cannot handle effectively.
All I know is that this came to mind in the middle of the night. So this morning, I unplugged my Sony TV to reset it, then opened PLEX choosing only to play normal audio tracks. It seemed that I had no problems playing these files at all, or moving from one set to another. These normal audio tracks are all RIPs from CDs in “uncompressed” FLAC format. They are approximately half the size of the 24/96 compressed FLACs.
I have not fixed the problem, but at least I believe that I have isolated the problem. Would I like to be able to play these 24/96 files? Yes. But it would be up to the PLEX engineers to figure that one out.
