It’s been a while since we’ve made any serious changes to the Plex Forums, so we wanted to let you know ahead of time of some changes we are planning to make. Mainly, removing a handful of subcategories that just aren’t used much or they’re redundant since the tag system covers them.
Removing Subcategories
For these four in General Discussions, tags will be created for some to be similar to the category names and added to topics, then content be moved to the parent General Discussions category.
Plex Features ; (No “feature” tag will be created as many already exist like subtitles, musicwatchlistend-credits etc or we may create ones that don’t exist. May be more appropriate to post in server or player categories.)
For these two, contents will be moved to the parent Plex Media Server Category. Please continue to server tags like server-mac, server-unraid etc
Desktop& Laptops
NAS & Devices
For these five, contents will be moved to the parent Plex Players Category. Please continue to use player tags like android-tv, player-mac, ios etc
Desktop Players
Streaming Devices
Gaming Consoles
Mobile Devices
Smart TVs
Changing Layout
We’re also going to be updating the layout of the Forums themselves, making change the navigation. Discourse (https://meta.discourse.org/) currently uses that style if you want to take a look."
That’s a valid opinion. But… What about it don’t you like? Is it the colors? The iconography for the categories, the shapes of the modals, or something else? We have a lot of options for thinking through how things will look. (And for clarity’s sake, when we say “Discourse currently uses that style”, the style specifically is how things are laid out, not necessarily the decorative aspects of it.)
Looks like the right approach as with the consolidation of code (especially with Mobile) in most cases many posts are relevant across the different playback device types, this new approach likely aligns with the way I’m using the forums.
I’ve dug around all my profile and settings areas and can’t find my list of tracked\watched topics anywhere. Am I blind or are they not listed anymore?
I had checked under Filters and it wasn’t clear to me that “tracking\watching” was considered part of the tag system to pull them up that way (wasn’t mentioned in the drop down\overlay or field text). Tracking\Watching are a more dedicated user function than the broader tags\catagories aspect so that didn’t feel intuitive so I didn’t even try typing out “tracking”; though I see once you do it does prompt for it.
Maybe presets on that Filter page for a few common user specific filters might be helpful there if you don’t wanna have it cluttering the main dropdown? Particularly would be helpful for ADA support as screen readers - and the folks who need to use them - often have hurdles with those dynamic overlay elements. Just a thought if you wanted to keep that initial menu cleaner which I can appreciate.
Thanks again for getting it sorted and explaining it.
Edit: @BigWheel - the “Watching” link doesn’t seem to work right. It works to manually filter to watching once at the filters page, but the menu item doesn’t trigger anything. I’ve tried it a few times in a few browsers.
Topics are currently in the process of being moved to the Plex Players category. if you are looking for posts for lg-webos for example you can filter on that tag;
