Update Libraries doesn't remove data for files deleted

On my windows PMS running 1.0.0.2261, when I delete a file in windows explorer and run Update Library, the media icon remains in the plex app and reads as unavailable. When I had PMS running on OSX the media icon was removed. Is there a way to get the Update Library function to remove the deleted media files media icons from the Plex app when updating library?

Empty library trash

Thanks, I’d been wondering how to do this.

That setting is already set on my PMS. Also, I’ve emptied trash manually. The icons do not appear with a trash symbol on them. They look as if they are playable, however they say Unavailable. The update library function doesn’t remove the data once the file is deleted from the drive. This worked flawlessly in OSX but not in windows.

You need to take a closer look at how you connected your libraries in Plex with actual folders/drives. Edit your library(s) and go to the ‘Add folders’ tab to find out.
Then compare this with the existing folders and drive letters you see in file explorer.
If there is one library connected to a drive letter or folder which doesn’t exist anymore, you get the behaviour you’re experiencing.

Windows has the habit to ‘swap’ or ‘shift’ drive letters if you connect external drives in a different order. One or several external drives might have gotten different drive letters.
You need to correct this in the control panel. http://pcsupport.about.com/od/tipstricks/f/change-drive-letter.htm

thanks for this… i have had many problems with orphan titles (i use plex for a large library of music files) and have had to resort to deleting entire libraries and recreating them which is a nightmare.
