<If providing server logs please do NOT turn on verbose logging, only debug logging should be enabled>
I am running Plex on my Windows 11 computer. It runs perfectly fine on that computer and it also runs perfectly fine on my Smart TV in another room. But on my iPhone, it says “Server is Outdated”. My version is 1.32.5.7516 and it wants to install Version 1.41.2 or newer.
I go onto my Windows 11 computer, go onto the Plex page, and in the Settings area I click on General. It shows that I have Version 1.32.5.7516 and there is a highlighted button in orange that says, “Download Updates”. I click on that and it supposedly is downloading and installing the update. But it doesn’t end. No error message. The little rotating icon that indicates it is running just runs and runs. I have left it for over an hour and it still doesn’t complete and it doesn’t issue any error message.
You need to navigate to the drive letter and subfolder, to where you downloaded the .bat file.
e.g. F:\Downloads
you enter f:<Enter> to change to drive F:
then cd Downloads<Enter> to enter the subfolder “Downloads”
(If your folder name has spaces in it, you need to enclose the folder name by “double quotes”.)
Then simply enter the file name of the .bat file and press Enter.
I opened an MS-DOS Command Prompt window and ran the script. Just to be certain that I did copy the correct script text, I tell you that it has 209 lines in it.
It ran, but there was no output whatsoever. No message of completion; no error message.
I tried doing the update of the server and it’s been running now for about five minutes. It appears to still be unable to complete the update.
Do you now suggest that I do Steps 2, 3, and 4 in your original response to me?
Did you ever move the Plex data folder away from its default location?
If not, please check the free space of drive C:
Better not disturb what it’s doing, or the DB could be damaged even more. Let it sit at least a few hours.
If that still doesn’t work, perform the above procedure in full, starting with the second half of step 1).
I have never moved the Plex data folder away from its default location.
My C:\ drive is huge and has a ton of empty space.
The Plex server works perfectly fine when I want to view something on my Windows 11 desktop computer (which is my Plex server).
It works perfectly fine when I use it on my Windows 11 laptop, accessing the Plex server on my Windows 11 desktop computer.
It works perfectly fine when I access Plex on our Smart TV, which, of course, is also being served by my Windows 11 desktop computer.
The only problem is when I try to access the Plex server on my iPhone.
You suggest that I try to do the Plex server update again and let it run for a long time. I will start the process again and let it run until tomorrow morning (about 18 hours from now.
If that doesn’t work, I am inclined to simply delete the entire Plex server, and reinstall it. I will make a backup of the Plex Media Server folder that is in the AppData\Local directory.
Shouldn’t that be a way to get the latest server software?
Plex Media Server must be stopped when you run DBRepair.
Regarding updating Plex Media Server..
There is rarely a need to completely remove Plex Media Server.
Uninstalling / downloading current version from plex.tv / re-installing, as @OttoKerner mentions, will bring your system up to date.
There are many database changes between 1.32.5 and 1.41.8. It may take quite some time for Plex Media Server to update the database to the new format.
On the server, point a browser window at http://localhost:32400/web. You may see the “503 maintenance” message (a page with just a couple of lines of text). If so, Plex Media Server is updating the database.
You are so kind to stick with me on this issue!! I really appreciate it.
As you suggested, I entered http://localhost:32400/web in a browser window and it brought up a message, “Unable to connect”.
Remember that I started the server update process a while ago, so the Plex server isn’t running. I assume that’s why I get the “Unable to connect” message.
I used the DBRepair-Windows.bat file that you gave me and it did work when I ran it. That is, it displayed text as it went through its steps. There were no error messages.
I then tried to run update of the server. I right-clicked on the Plex icon in the Systray to exit the server, and then tried to run the update of the Plex Media Server. It would not start the update process. I had to get back into the Plex server and then and only then would it start the update process of the server.
So it is running right now and doesn’t look like it will complete successfully. I will let it run overnight and update you on its progress.
I have read and re-read the instructions for restoring a database backup. I don’t understand what is necessary to do.
I am abandoning doing this and will remove the Plex server from my computer and reinstall it.
I do appreciate your patience with me, but I am quite confident about uninstalling and recreating it, as I have done that multiple times in the past when I have rebuilt my computer.
First off, my apologies to FordGuy61 – You made a suggestion and I didn’t notice that it came from you. I assumed it came from Otto Kerner. Thank you for trying to help me.
Otto – I deleted the Plex server from my Windows 11 computer. Prior to doing that, I saved a copy of the current Plex Media Server folder that had been in my AppData\Local directory. After the deletion was complete, I reinstalled Plex. That loaded on the very latest Plex Server software, Version 1.41.8.9834. Once I restored the contents of my original Plex Media Server data files, all was OK.
I can now access my Plex content from my iPhone.
Thank you so much for your patience with me and all of your suggestions..
