Update on new Downloads feature

For me in my ios, i have only one album in Sync(Legacy), it says these items will be removed at the end of 2021, in yellow, but the album is still there.(also i cannot erase it manually)

I haven’t tried that yet, but when I enable downloads via mobile connection it works. So why doesn’t it work on my home wi-fi?! Sync feature works fine…

@abbeyalto and @Sam-of-Nine what version of the iOS app are you running? What you describe sounds like the DNS rebinding issue, but that’s been fixed since 7.27. If you are on 7.27 or newer, please provide me the ios logs after reproducing the issue.

I use the latest Android App 8.29.1.30697 on an up-to-date Android 11.

So this is exactly the same issue I am having, works if I come off wifi and carry on when going back onto wifi but won’t start on wifi. with multiple Android devices (Samsung S20, Tab S4, and also Amazon fire 8HD). Apple device works without any issues.

I experience the same issue as @davesappy and @Sam-of-Nine. Works with mobile network, but as soon as the phone/tablet is connected to Wifi it stops. I provided the logs already.

Those of you on Android and not working on local WiFi, are you using a custom access URL for your server?

I don’t, but I correct myself. If I start the download on mobile data and then turn Wifi on it continues to download over Wifi. But if I try to do it first over Wifi it won’t work. I attached the log of my last try

No, no custom urls in use on any devices or server

@Unknown_User Ok, I see the download not working. It’s showing an “unknown” error that I’ve been trying to track down. It’s odd that it works if you switch to mobile. Can you do reproduce this again? Let it fail, then switch to mobile and le tit download for a little bit then grab the Android logs.

Can you also get me the xml info for the movie King Richard?

Edit - You also have debug logging disabled on your server. I don’t need it now, but for future reference, we can’t diagnose issues without that info.

King Richard wasn’t a good example maybe. But I could reproduce it with the movie “2012”.

  1. Started download over Wifi
  2. Unknown Error
  3. Turned Wifi off, so it can connect with mobile data
  4. Download started
  5. Turned Wifi on again
  6. Download continued over Wifi (I know that, because the downloadspeed increased from 1,5 mb/s to around 35 mb/s)

I am experiencing an issue when downloading a TV series where an episode download will loop infinitely. It will download to 100%, then start downloading the same file again.

I looked in the log files and see this section:

It shows the point that the download reaches 100%, silently fails with “No destination path for temporary file” and then reinitiates the same download. There are no errors displayed in the server nor client apps. There is ample space on my phone to store the file.

I selected two seasons to download. The first season took a very long time to download (because it was looping on files) but did eventually finish somehow. The second season could not get past episode 1.

This jumped up and bit us in the a$$ today - 2 days before my wife will be traveling for work and wanted to make sure she had movies downloaded. Sync worked the last time used, but even though the files were showing that they were on her iPad, none could actually play. I couldn’t delete the things either. Had to delete the app to dump the data as it was still showing many GB being used. Alas, that didn’t help either.

Attached are some server logs after restarting that in the middle of all this. Symptoms are the app says it’s downloading, server shows it’s transcoding or downloading, and after a minute or two it errors out. Same thing on another iPad (latest ipadOS on both). I am able to stream with no issues and I’m able to get to the server remotely. This is obviously way too late for my wife, but maybe you can get this fixed soon? Again? Maybe?

I found a workaround… if you want to call it that. If I create an optimized version first and then pull the movie up in the app and hit download, it works. It obviously isn’t transcoding it again and just downloading.

So if the above works why the heck would it fail trying to do it from the download option in the app?? Weird…

I need the ios app log.

Sure. Here’s a fresh one. If you need verbose let me know.

Just checking in again, Picture in Picture for downloaded X265/HEVC doesn’t work, no matter if it is Original/Maximise Compatibility or Old/New player. Any other pointers?

Also just to confirm that Maximise Compatibility with Old Player (recommended above) doesn’t even start playback.

Pleased to confirm that the latest TestFlight beta (8.0 2126) fixes Picture in Picture playback for downloaded content in x265 on iOS. Thank you!

PS also thanks for restoring the arrow keys for keyboard control of skip forward and back on iPad.

I use a custom URL and DNS to access my plex server.

Downloads is ok with 5g connexion but n ver works on WiFi
Custom URL is correctly resolved.
Home Wifi connexion : URL is resolved on local network (192.168…)
Outside connexion (mostly 4g or 5g) : URL is resolved with public ipv4 (92…)

My custom URL is also resolved on IPv6 but if doesnt solved the problem.

I have tried this feature a few times and always get Download Failed message, it has never worked. Same device has no problem streaming the media.
