Updating Plexamp Version on Raspberry Pi

Hi

I have sought the answer to this but for the life of me can’t find it. I have the latest Plex server on my Windows PC (just updated an hour ago). I have a RPi4B running Plexamp, but an old version (4.4.0).

If I want to update it, do I reflash my SD card with the latest, or is there a simpler way to do it?

Thanks in advance! :raised_hands:

what install method did you originally use?

Thanks for replying - you had also replied to me the other day, so I am very grateful.

I used the generic install as advised by Elan when the headless version was first released on top of Raspbian OS, though I was aware it was tied to that specific version- 4.4.0. I didn’t use the script from @odinb1 or any other method.

I would be happy to start from scratch and reflash a card, just whatever would be the easiest to then update periodically.

Again thanks for taking the time to reply.

if you’re already on the current version of Raspberry Pi OS, it should not be necessary to re-flash the OS again

(current version of Raspberry Pi OS is based on Debian Bullseye … enter cat /etc/os-release to confirm)

moving from 4.4.0 to 4.6.1 also requires a newer version of node (16) … installer from @odinb1 has option to update both Plexamp and node

Do as suggested by @tgp-2, and if it breaks, and you are unable to fix, perform fresh install using my bash. After this, you can easily use updated versions of the bash to upgrade.

Thanks for the reminder about the Node - I had clocked mention of that before :+1:

@odinb1, thanks so much for the script. I just reflashed from scratch for three Pi devices, and it was a breeze. You are a genius! :raised_hands:

I don’t have any pi’s ATM but successes like these are going to increase usage of PlexAmp and I’m more excited what else users can come up with.

This is still on my to do list…

@D_eight6: People are using my bash to install on other HW than RPis, have gotten “issues” opened due to this. This is why nodeJS became optional in the bash for example! Script should work on most debian-based distros! If not, open a ticket (“issue”?), and I will see what can be done!

For example you can get the “Dell Wyse Zx0 Mini PC 16G Storage 4G RAM” for about $35 on ebay (used/refurbished)! Install Debian (server) and run my bash. Couple that with a USB-DAC etc, or run audio over HDMI to your amp, and it should work.
