I have been putting off the “Upgrade Libraries” option for months (years?) now. I have time over the holidays to do this. Just upgraded PMS to Version 1.30.0.6486 as of Dec 23, 2022.
Wanted to know if there is any reason I shouldn’t.
I guess I have a fear of “if its not broke, dont fix it!”
Any comments welcome.
Thanks yall – hope all of you are having a great holiday!
Try it out without converting the existing library.
Create a new library.
Point it to the same media storage location(s) as the old library.
See what happens.
You will find that if you don’t stick to the naming and folder organization guidelines for Plex, that a large portion of your files will either not show up at all or will get mismatched or be recognized as duplicates of other items. https://support.plex.tv/articles/categories/your-media/
If you want to save yourself some aggravation, I would consider using a renaming program before you upgrade to avoid any mismatches, duplicates, or missing media
These are both free and make pretty quick work of even large libraries
For movies I suggest
Folder name - ${title} (${year})
Filename - ${TITLE} (${year}) {imdb-${imdb}}
For TV shows I suggest this, but only if you’re planning on setting your library to use the TVDB show order
