How do I get the server logs? Are we talking about Plex or Qnap server logs?
I have tried manually installing the latest Plex package 1.42.2, but did not help.
I’m curious what makes you think it’s not starting?
Let’s say your QNAP has IP Addr = 192.168.1.20
What do you get when you open a web browser on your LAN and go to
http://192.168.1.20/identity
If you get any response, then PMS is running.
To answer your question about getting logs…
The server logs are located on your QNAP.
If the server is running, you can get logs from a computer on your LAN,
open a Plex player like Plex for Mac or the hosted web app and go to
Settings → Troubleshooting → Download Logs
If PMS didn’t start on the QNAP, then to get logs you could
- open a browser to the QNAP desktop as admin and use File Station.
- or you could SSH into your QNAP, zip the logs, and copy them to a local computer.
I usually sit down on my Mac laptop or desktop and SSH in.
I would open a terminal, and if my QNAP has IP address 192.168.1.20 I would type
ssh admin@192.168.1.20
q
y
cd /etc/init.d
./plex.sh restart
cd /share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/.qpkg/PlexMediaServer/
cd "Library/Plex Media Server"
zip -rj PMSlogs_`date "+%Y-%m-%d_%H-%M-%S"` ./Logs
That would zip up your logs and leave the zip file in the current directory, e.g.
# ls -l *.zip
-rw-r--r-- 1 admin administrators 5589359 2025-10-03 00:51 PMSlogs_2025-10-03_00-51-32.zip
#
To copy that zip out of the QNAP to the Mac, sometimes I move it to my admin’s home directory, then exit SSH, then use scp to copy it over my Mac, e.g.
# mv PMS*.zip ~/
# cd
# pwd
/root
# ls -l
-rw-r--r-- 1 admin administrators 5589359 2025-10-03 00:51 PMSlogs_2025-10-03_00-51-32.zip
# exit
$ cd
$ scp admin@192.168.1.20:/root/PMS*.zip .
sort of gory, but that’s why many people use File Station
hi. Maybe it was an issue due to the VPN tunnel I was using. I am now connecting from the same network over wifi, but this time the problem is new: I need to claim it, for some reason, and I cannot do it. See atatchments.
After rebooting the Qnap app, it now works.
