Hi All,
I recently built a Media PC with a goal of streaming my 10TB movie collection (via NAS) on a plex server pushing the content to my Plex app on Roku or natively on my Sony Android software built into my TV.
My Plex server config is:
ASUS Prime B450M-A Micro ATX Motherboard,
AMD Ryzen 5 3600X Processor
ASUS GT710-SL-2GD5 GeForce GT 710 2
Corsair CMK16GX4M2B3200C16 Vengeance LPX 16 GB
When i first set it up things seemed great, all 1080p stuff streamed well and most of the 4K stuff streamed also through the app, with the odd issue.
I recently upgraded TV from 65" to 85".
When i log into the Media PC directly I’m now running into issues, when trying to play the movie through the media pc on the 85" 4K media does not work and I get the error message “The Server is not powerful enough to convert media”. However when I play the same content through the plex app on my TV it seems to work just fine.
I was thinking about upgrading Graphics Card to this:
Your CPU has a passmark score of approx. 20k points. This is good enough to transcode one 4K HDR video at a time.
I suppose your limitation might be the network. I take it you’re using a wired connection between your router and the TV? Keep in mind that most TVs only provide a 100 Mbps LAN port, while many 4K movies easily have bandwidth peaks way above that threshold. You might be able to get a better connection using the built-in WLAN (assuming there’s no obvious interferences).
You might want to check that out before investing.
Also… keep in mind that hw-accelerated transcoding requires a Plex Pass!
Thanks for the quick response.
I have a 8 port wired GigE connection for Media PC, NAS + TV.
As mentioned when I look @ the resource monitor when i launch a 4K video on PC from within the Plex app the CPU utilisation goes through the roof which I assume is why im getting the stuttering.
I have no issue with buying a plex pass if that is the right fix to serve my needs
