My experience so far has been strange. It’s been replacing some of my album art (which is something I would like to have complete control over since I have my own personal database of album art that I’ve curated). Some artist names have been altered (minorly, of course, but I have been careful about making sure that my artist names match the most commonly used naming conventions). I’ve had one instance where an album now shows up as 2 discs despite the fact that I don’t have it tagged that way and that said album does not exist ANYWHERE digitally or otherwise in a 2-disc configuration (Amorica by The Black Crowes). That’s just 2 days of stuff I’ve noticed. I’m sure there’s a ton more.
Also, another thing I noticed. Is Plex now using down-rezzed versions of embedded album art?

As far as music tags go, Musicbrainz Picard is the best app for that. I also use Kid3.
Thank you Nibbles! In your setup you have always included ‘Various Artists -’ in the name of the sub-folder for the album. I have not done that; see attached example. Will that make the big difference?
Yes it will make a big difference. My library is organized by artists, and there’s a special one called Various Artists as you saw, because it matches the tag:
Album Artist: Various Artists

Alright seeing a LOT more blank artwork today for albums that I KNOW have embedded artwork and a matching folder.jpg in the album directory. What gives? I can edit and reselect my original artwork but Plex is now totally disregarding my tags and embedded artwork and either blanking it out or flat-out replacing it with a lower-rez version of my artwork. Is this by design? If it is, I don’t like it one bit.
There is a special selector for album art in the properties of the library. What have you selected there?

It bears mentioning that this is happening mostly on albums where I have more than one version available. Like the Beatles where I have mono versions alongside the stereo versions. They have different names, though but the cover is mostly the same.
Dear Nibbles, thanks again for your advice. After a number of tests I came to the conclusion that the problem arises because a number of albums are not tagged like Misicbrainz wants it to be. Scanning itself went well, but finding the right metadata took a huge amount of time.
I have removed the albums from my library, changed the tag and put them back. I also optimized the database and cleaned up the bundles. And Plex is working again as it should be!

I have a question regarding the mood feature. I see there is only Artist and Album moods, where does this information come from? AllMusic or MusicBrainz or both? I would appreciate the opportunity to have track moods, but besides that’s wishing thinking.
Moods come from TiVo, which makes it likely they originate from Allmusic.
Track moods will be coming back, but they’re not ready yet.
Correct, I was looking on multiple pages on AllMusic and I see this for albums and artists. I wonder how the moods will work with tracks since AllMusic does not offer that information. My only guess: MusicBrainz originated?

So I posted an issue about sorting albums by rating here a couple of days ago, and I just stubled upon this post. Could it be related?
It seems a new form of album rating is being scraped from somewhere (I think from AllMusic), which is used in the sort by rating feature right now.
Which is all fine, fun to compare I guess, but please add a new sorting feature called sort by album rating then. I’d like that at least. Why else rate your own music…
I need help with matching on Plex Music.
When I try to match Michael Jackson’s Thriller (1982) and Thriller 25 (2008), Plex will group the album together in the match and ignoring the proper metadata I have applied for this.
Am I naming albums incorrectly?
I have it as
Michael Jackson/Michael Jackson - Thriller (1982)/01 - First Song.mp3
I don’t understand why it is ignoring the year.
‘Thriller 25’ is the same album as the original from 1982, just a different version of it.
Plex doesn’t do well with different versions, unless you ‘prefer local metadata’.
But activating ‘prefer local metadata’ means that you better have to have your embedded metadata in perfect condition.
For a collector of music, who often has several versions of the same album, I see no alternative to using ‘prefer local metadata’.
You need to have different ‘album title’ meta tags. Simply embedding different ‘date’ or ‘year’ tags is not sufficient to disambiguate the versions.

It is a preference in the properties of your library. So yes, this will affect the whole library.
I agree. This sounds interesting but I’ve got lots of hard to find non-Western artists and albums and am happy with my 15 or so genres. Would probably create a massive mess if I asked an automated system to tag everything. I’ll skip this
Using PMS 1.18.1.1973 & Web Client, as a Plex Pass user, with a freshly created Music Library. I’m not only seeing Moods as a filter in the Library view mode.
So currently the only way to generate a mood-related playlist would be to filter by the mood of choice while in Library view, correct?
