Upgrading the storage on my Synology DS1520+, will reinstall everything from scratch, and migrate to DSM7

I’ve got a Synology DS1520+ which has been running fine for about a year. I’m going to replace 3 smaller drives with larger ones, recreate my volumes and shared folders so that they are larger.

I’ve already backed up my Plex folder and other data onto backup drives.
Additionally, I will reinstall Plex but will be running DSM 7 instead of DSM6.

Even though I’ve backed up the Plex movie folders, I’m wondering where the metadata is actually stored. I’ve had to edit movie names, movie icons, etc so that they show up in Plex correctly. Where is that information stored so that I don’t need to do it again in the new Plex installation?

Is there anything else I need to be aware of running Plex on DSM 7 as well as reusing (if possible) the metadata from the previous Plex installation which was running on DSM6?

Thanks

When you restore,

  1. Create the Plex shared folder again
  2. Put the backup copy of metadata (Everything in the Plex shared folder) back in it.
  3. Now install Plex for DSM 7.

Doing it this way

  1. It will process all your metadata and make it DSM 7 ready
  2. It will then move all the metadata into the new DSM 7 structure (PlexMediaServer shared folder)
  3. When it is complete, the Plex share will be empty

You can monitor the installing (it will sit there for a LONG time) by opening a new session and looking at Migration.log (appears after 2-3 minutes)
