Uploading music already on server

Every 6 months or so, when I add new music to my library and do a ‘Scan Library Files’ to get the music to show up, the upload pulls tons of music already in my library into the “Recently Added” section of the player. Not a problem as much as it is annoying: I like to see the new music I’ve added in the order it was added for easy access and so I don’t have to go searching for it.
Any ideas on why this is happening and how to stop it?

This can happen if your media files are located on an external drive, and Plex tries to run a refresh when the external drive is not available. If this is the case, the recommendation is to disable the “Empty trash automatically after every scan” option:
