Use local assets - causing blank episode title cards

I have been adding in some local assets for TV shows - some will have:
Show.jpg
Background.jpg
Season01.jpg etc…
and episode title cards named the same as the video file.

When I have all the local assets things work as expected.

However there are some shows I only have the show and season posters and no other local assets - for these shows, the episode title cards are now blank.

When I look at the setting for local assets it does state ‘When scanning this library, use local posters and artwork if present’

If present - so why then where episode title card images are not present is Plex ‘using local assets’ instead of just retaining the existing images??

Is this a bug or expected behaviour?

urgh I have even noticed some movie posters are now blank as well - this is for movies where there is no local poster

Are they mp4 files that possibly have an embedded image?

yes - well mv4 files
but those embedded images aren’t being picked up either and I don’t have the option ‘Prefer local metadata: When scanning this library, prefer embedded tags and local files if present.’ ticked - only use local assets is ticked

any thoughts on this one? it is really messing up my library - I think I will have to turn off the local assets and add them manually

Indeed this looks like a bug. I have been struggling with this for the last few days. Now that Doctor Who (2005) is no longer be updated, and the new episodes are for Doctor Who (2023) I finally decided to try and make plex use my custom ordering.

None of the internet databases do the ordering properly. If I use DVD order it gets closer than aired order. But still webisodes, children in needs specials, etc, are normally not in the sequence.

What gets me is I can tell plex reads the metadata. In that if I use the regular season it will show all my episode images before downloading the metadata. If instead say remap Specials to say Season 100, then it just seems to completely ignore all metadata. Almost… When I look at the show, I see the “Sort Title” is indeed the title I have for the given episode. But it doesn’t populate Title. Sort Title seems rather useless on tv series, since they are always sorted by numerical order instead.

I even tried reviving usage of the XBMCnfoTVImporter.bundle. But although I see in the logs plex loads the plug-in it doesn’t show up selections for scanning or plugins list.

I gave up and went back to doing it manually. The bug was causing too great a mess of things
