Thanks to some observant members of our community, we recently discovered that some information was being sent from our mobile apps to Facebook. Our immediate response was to disable this behavior entirely in hotfixes for our iOS and Android apps. Upon further investigation, we’ve concluded that a subset of the information formerly being reported to Facebook is essential to our understanding how Facebook users are discovering Plex through the app stores on Android and iOS.
In order for us to continue to make good decisions about how to talk about and advertise Plex on Facebook, as of the next app releases for iOS and Android, we are enabling two reporting events for the 30 days following a fresh installation: one for new app installs and one for app opens. Reporting events will remain disabled across subsequent app updates. The events do not contain your personal Facebook information. This information will be handled by Facebook in accordance with the GDPR and other legal requirements. For further information please refer to Facebook’s data use policy.
We recognize the sensitivity around all of your personal data, and we’re committed to keeping this type of reporting to the absolute minimum required for us to continue to thrive. Thanks for your patience while we investigated this activity, and for your understanding in our decision to allow certain data to continue to be collected.
