"Use original title" for non english library item defaults to wrong episode title

Hi, I’ve had this problem for a while now, hoping to see it fixed after a few server updates, but it never was, so maybe it’s not a common or known issue.

I have my main tv library set to english, but I have a number of shows that have dual language available, and for these I choose to set that specific series’ metadata to “italian” with “use original title” selected in the advanced options:

So the series should display the original english title, including single episodes, and then have the description and synopsis in italian, if I understand correctly.

Everything works, except for the episode titles. When setting this and refreshing metadata, the main title stays in english, the synopsis switches to italian, but every single episode is now named after the show itself. So for example, for a show called “Revenge of the puppies”, every single episode is now titled “Revenge of the puppies”, using neither the original nor the italian title.

Should be fairly easy to reproduce, and I hope you can get this fixed at some point. As of right now I have resorted to go into each season and “lock” every episode name before switching the settings, but it’s annoying when a new season shows up.

Thanks!

@BigWheel maybe?

I have tested this in a German library, with original titles activated.
As expected, I get English episode titles, but a German synopsis.

Have you verified that this particular series has English episode titles at all on TheMovieDB.org?

Also if your files are in mp4/m4v format, check their embedded metatags. They must not have anything in their Title tags.

Did you activate the “original titles” option per library or on the specific series? My library is set as an english library, and I then activate the option on the specific series I want the italian synopsis to display.

This happens on multiple different series and on every single one I use this on. I know they have english titles because when I first add them, they get the proper titles. I then activate the option, refresh metadata, and that’s when the titles change and every single episode gets titled as the entire series.

Sometimes I actually disable the option, refresh metadata so episodes are named properly, lock all the episodes names and then refresh again with the option active, just as a workaround for this issue.

I just “unlocked” this season and refreshed the metadata (with the option active), to show you what happens:

Thanks for your interest.

On the specific series. My library is set to German.

So that’s what’s different. My library is set to english, and I set the specific series to italian with original titles.

Have you tried with an english library?

Just updated to 1.31.0.6654, issue persists.

Updated to 1.32.0.6973, issue has “evolved”, but still somewhat present.

  • If I refresh metadata at a Series level, i get incorrect episode titles, in this case in italian, so the server is ignoring the “Use original title”.
  • If I refresh metadata at a Season level, or at the single Episode level, I get the correct english (original) titles.

So it’s better, but still not completely fixed.

Recently updated, issue is back in it’s original state. It’s easy to reproduce, and I guess just as easily ignored.
