Use Xbox one as a plex server?

Has any work gone into using an Xbox one as a plex server? I would rather go that way than continue using my desktop or go to a NAS.

This is not possible. There is no build for Plex Media Server that is supported on the Xbox.

Pretty sure he knows it’s not currently possible, he’s asking if any work has gone into it

Fair enough. Personally, I would honestly doubt this will ever be a thing, but I’ve been wrong before.

Edit: Going to add some thoughts given my experience with Ark: Survival Evolved and a friend who hosts a dedicated server on the Xbox. Running that as a server means you cannot use your Xbox for anything else. For this game it made sense since it’s the only way we can host it (until they let us host on PC, then it’ll move to my server). Perhaps I’m missing something there, but it just doesn’t seem like it would be a popular enough Platform for a server for Plex to bother investing time into it where there is so much other stuff that would be of more benefit.

I kind of doubt it too, especially since MS nixed the DVR for Xbox One presumably because the Xbox One couldn’t handle the DVR function and gaming at the same time. There is some hope though with Xbox Scorpio. Should be powerful enough to handle the job of Plex Media Server.

The other issue isn’t going to be just if it has the power to do it. The Xbox has enough power it could run a server and direct play several streams with other stuff going with no issue. The bigger problem is going to be convincing Microsoft that it would be a good idea to allow almost any device connect to a server running on the Xbox eco system. Currently, the app isn’t even allowed to look on the local network so having a server running that broadcasts on the local network and internet for any device to connect to it might be a stretch.

I’m upgrading my og Xbox One and was hoping to transform it into a Plex Server…I haven’t been able to implement one b/c the work lappy is locked down…and not going to try that on my wife’s system; I might be crazy, but I don’t have a death wish.
