I allow my granddaughter to access my media library. She is the only one besides myself. I can reach my library from local as well as my app, but she cannot. Her device (I’m not sure what she is using, phone, tablet, PC or TV) says’ the media server is offline.
Looking at the settings, I see that she has full access to the library, no restrictions. The server was set to remote, but local access only via a manually port number, 32400. I don’t think that I want to enable remote access. I don’t want to giver her, or any one access to the server, only access to the media library.
I don’t see anything wrong in the settings, other than the remote access, but it has always been set like this. Is there something else i need to do to allow her to access the library?
I’m a bit confused about the 2nd paragraph of your post…
Is your granddaughter in your own home network when she’s streaming from your shared libraries?
If you want her to stream from outside your home network, you’ll need to enable remote access. Enabling remote access won’t change anything about what media she can access – it’s just about your server being accessible while you’re away from home (serving media as it’s configured to do).
You were correct, my granddaughter is in a different location and I guess I must have had port forwarding setup at some point in time. I don’t remember setting it up, but once I went through the process, it looked familiar. I’m not sure what happened. I was having some issues with the ISP and I had to reboot the router several times, so perhaps that setting got removed.
Plex now say’s that contents are reachable from the outside.
