Having issues with Remote Access?

Can someone please get this thing straight for me because I have been beating my head around it and I still cannot get it right ?

So first of all please correct me if I have understood the Remote Access Concept Correctly So does Remote Access Mean even if my Media Server is not up and running on my device, in my case Windows Laptop. But as long as I have an internet connection, not the same Wifi I can still access the Media Library on any device ? Because this is not working. The Moment I shut down my windows Laptop on which I have created my Media Library all the other device on which I want to play the Media cannot access it.

This is quite expected.
The Plex media server is running on your laptop. If you shut down the laptop, you shut down Plex server.

So how does Remote Access work then ?

Your Plex server device is at your home and running.
You or your friends and family members are outside of your home and are accessing it remotely.

Ok. So even in Remote Access Scenario the Media Server has to be kept running all the time?

Precisely.

Which all devices can be made a Media Server ? Can a Mobile Phone be made a Media Server ?

No. Phones cannot operate as server. Neither their operating system software, nor the mobile networks won’t allow it.

So further yk the issues I am facing with setting up the Remote Access to the Plex Media Server, I have gone through a lot reading material and information which is out there on how to set up the Remote access and make necessary changes in the router to have a stable remote acces to the Plex Media server l, yet my Remote Access keeps disconnecting. I have also configured a port forwarding in the router yet the remote access in the Plex Server keeps disconnecting. Can I not have a very stable remote access to the Plex Media Server ?. If yes, How ?

End-user computers, laptops in particular, might have several settings activated, which cause it to power-down some components when idle, like its network adapter or its hard drive.
For a “server”, this is not suitable.

You want a computer

  • with a wired connection to your router
  • the network adapter has been given a fixed local IP address
  • power saving settings disabled for the network adapter, as well as for the whole computer. You don’t want your Plex server to go into hibernation while you are out of house, because there is (almost) no way to wake it up from afar.

Any solution that you can offer at the moment?
