Hey guys,
I’ve given a handful of people outside of my network access to my Plex library. From what I understand, a Managed User can only be used within the network, so I set them up as a regular Plex user to where they’d register and then join.
The issue, however, is that other users can see other users that have been added. They can also (although they’d never do this) remove users if they wanted to. A user I added last night happened to inform me of this, and I found that highly weird and suspect. It’s like every user I add has a type of admin permission baked in.
Is there no permissions jailing/caging (set by me aka super admin) for users added to my library?
I am wondering if you gave the users delete rights?
Are you adding these users to your Plex Home ?
If so, stop doing that…
Also, does your plex account (the admin account) have a PIN set for it?

There are no settings to give users delete rights
I add them via:
Settings > Users > Add Users > Add Existing Plex Users
MY account does indeed have a pin, and they don’t have access to that.

So what is the correct way to have someone outside of my network view my library?
@“brandon.moner”
Settings > Users > Friends > Invite Friends
Use the create a share, which does not require them to be in your Plex Home> @brandon.moner said:

That way is adding them to your Plex Home.
You should be doing the following:
Settings -> Users -> Friends -> Invite Friend
But 1st you need to remove them from your Home

Ok. Thanks for that. I wasn’t even aware of that. So adding them to the home gives them certain Home rights, and adds them to the friends list. Where simply adding them as a friend keeps them in a silo?
Ok just removed them from my home. They’re still located in the Friends section however. Do I need to remove them from there as well and then re-add them, or is that fine that they only show there?
If your account has a PIN then that provides you with some security but if the users are not in your house then there is no need to add them to your Plex Home.
Ading them as just a SHARE allows you to not have to log into every device they use to be able to access your plex home.

Ok. I wasn’t logging in though. When I sent them the invite, it asks them to register as a Plex TV member for access. So I never logged into anything nor shared my pin.
So after removing them from my home, do I have to ALSO delete them and re-add them as friends? Or am I ok just saying remove from home, but letting them keep friend status?
I believe they automatically drop back to normal shared status, but you can check that by clicking on their user name in the Friends list and see that you are still sharing libraries with them

Ok cool, it still says sharing. Thanks for your help.
