"Users" with custom "Allow Only" restrictions playing trailers from all content ratings

Continuing the discussion from FEATURE REQUEST: CINEMA TRAILERS FILTER for AGE APPROPRIATE Trailers:

Plex Version: 1.32.7.7571

I have a “User” with “allow only” restrictions based on custom content ratings. The custom content ratings are for my kids and are based on Common Sense Media’s age ratings.

Trailers for content outside of the “allow only” restrictions play.

(I was lucky to be around as a trailer for M3GAN started to boot up in front of my 5 year old. The trailer that has a doll face to camera while someone is hanging in the background with a wire around their neck).

Does anyone know a way to remove the trailer options from settings on the managed user side for an account? Do I need to go in and add every rating in my library to the “exclude” list?

Will add a feature request to add a disable trailers option into managed users (similar to downloads).

Plex should consider content ratings if you use the predefined access profiles (younger/older kid, teenager).

Yes, thank you for that suggestion.

There are some funky edge cases that exist (For example: Meet the Press showing war footage, talking about sexual abuse, fire/flood/earthquake disasters, etc) that are not excluded on the most exclusive restriction profile: Younger Kid.

Additionally when you use the pre-structured restriction profiles, you lose the ability to apply labels that you could, in theory, use to hide specific shows or items. (Like Meet the Press, City Lights, etc).

This becomes problematic when attempting to “remove” a specific item or show that one would like to hide or not allow your kids to play. Maintaining the ability to play items outside of the specific restrictions regardless of source feels wild without the ability to turn that specific source off. An option present for other non-library based items.
