Because of the lack of effective trailer content controls, add a feature to disable the ability to play trailers to protect kids.
Access to the settings that govern the ability play trailers before movies is accessible to “Managed Users” from the User’s settings menu. This allows for content ratings to effectively be circumvented if they are built at the “Allow Only” level and can play movies from the entire library (despite not being viewable by the Managed User from their “Library” screen).
Ideally still able to play pre-rolls or have as an additional option similar to the current trailer selection option).
This could function like the “Allow Downloads” option within the Restrictions menu.
Did you already have a look at the out-of-the-box restriction profiles? These should already apply to local and online media.
The custom restrictions only apply to content from your own libraries.
There are some funky edge cases that exist (For example: Meet the Press showing war footage, talking about sexual abuse, fire/flood/earthquake disasters, etc) that are not excluded on the most exclusive restriction profile: Younger Kid.
Additionally when you use the pre-structured restriction profiles, you lose the ability to apply labels that you could in theory use to hide specific shows or items. (Like Meet the Press).
Because custom restrictions apply only to content from our own libraries, it feels right to then create an “allow/don’t allow” feature similar to the other options restrictions do not apply to (Downloads, Live TV/DVR).
