Using Plex on a network without internet connection AS WELL AS not needing to select a user

Hey there,

I’ve checked out as much as I could using the Plex support and search functions – I would love to know:

– How do I prevent Plex from requiring me to select a user on my local network? I tried the “Allowed IPs” function in the Network settings, but it is still asking for a user.

– How do I prevent Plex from needing to phone home to grant me access to my local media? I don’t want to offer my Plex account outside of my network – never have. I also don’t want to need to have a connection to Plex to stream my media.

It seems like, even though I paid for a lifetime plan prior to these features being rolled out, I am unable to easily disable this functionality. How do I opt out from playing along with the Software-As-A-Service version of Plex that we currently are forced to use today?

Thanks!

It is not really possible. The whole Plex concept centers around plex.tv as a central hub which authenticates users and helps clients to find their servers etc.

see Remote connections

So if Plex TV ceased operations for any reason then all of our servers would also cease operations… Other then maybe the local admin…

Anyone have any options?

At that point, I would move to Emby.

That’s an option…

But it could also end up down the road where we are today… Not saying it will.

What I would like to see is a way to get one’s own Private Internet IP and point it at my servers and that would eliminate the need for Plex TV or any others like it…
Yes i know it costs to have a private IP but I think that the control it would give would be worth the money.

just my 2 cents

I appreciate everyone’s responses here – thank you very much =)
