Using VPN with Plex

Hey,

I just have a simple question. If you want better quality sound and picture as well as consistent streaming speed, is it better to use a VPN connection with Plex? I am assuming that configuring a VPN to run with Plex should not be much of an issue.

Thanks

Probably the opposite as Plex will assume both client and server are on the same network and therefore use local quality settings, which your upload may not be able to cope with.

You are better to adjust the remote settings for your best WLAN results without compromising your LAN quality.

There is not much you can do to affect general routing etc on the internet but being aware of e.g. peak times effects on upload/download speeds, especially if you are on over contended DSL or have bandwidth hogging neighbours, will help you achieve the best balance.

The server’s upload speed and what it is being shared with is probably the major factor; it may be that you change the streaming setting depending on the time of day.

Also make sure the cache is set to it’s highest on the client (if possible).
