i have a plex server that works great … few days ago i connected the server from a frieands smart tv’ the server worked but i wasent able to change the streaming quality…
the file is 720p(not 1080p but in 1080 i have the same problem)
and it streams it on 360p… i go to playback settings , i tried to change it to 720(4mb)’ 720(2mb), auto quality ,original quality, i even tried 480p.
and it alweys loads after my selection and goes back to 360p… i even tried 240p and it loaded and went to 360p… i tried on a few devices… same result.
my isp internet speed is 500mb download/10 mb upload… the highest available in my town.
the problem is in the upload speed? at my server (change in setiings to stream in hd outside the lan)?
There’s a number of factors that can influence the remote playback quality:
Your own internet upload speed Here: 10 Mbps
With a Plex Pass you can limit the max remote-streaming bitrate Here: not applicable
Your remote access setup – under certain circumstances the remote connection will fallback to an indirect connection (e.g. if the client cannot directly connect to your server). With an indirect connection, the bandwidth is limited to 1 Mbps (2 Mbps for Plex Pass members) Here: ???
Some ISPs will throttle connections; this is getting more rare but can still happen in areas with poor connections (keep in mind: internet connections are not guaranteed to stay local, so the term of “area” can apply to any internet provider who’s involved in streaming your media to your friend. Here: ??? [you have little to no control over this – so let’s focus on the other points first]
The client video playback quality settings. Unless they’ve got an actual restriction (e.g. a limited mobile data plan while playing media on a mobile network), you should prefer streaming in original quality. Here: various [let’s stick with original quality for now]
What information is showing in the “now playing” tile for that playback on the Plex server dashboard? Let’s use original quality remote streaming on your friend’s smart tv…
This overview should e.g. display how the video is streamed (see #3 above).
