I love the Live TV feature, it’s really a great addition to Plex. However, it seems that the Plex Channels are sorted into categories, however, if you use an external EPG source (xmltv/xTeVe), you don’t get the categorisation on your channels, despite that data being available. More info can be found here, with some research by @ukmike.
Could this feature be added? It would be the icing on the cake, saving scrolling down one huge list.
I also want this feature. In xteve, I’ve organized channels into categories, and the XMLTV file includes category details. However, it seems like xteve’s XMLTV only has category info for programs, not channels. Plex does recognize program categories but not channel categories. How can I get Plex to recognize channel categories?
Below is a part of my XMLTV content, it seems that channels indeed do not have categories? Programs do.
This still isnt a feature yet and it really should be. I think Plex uses the Gracenote ID’s for each programme to determine what category each programme is. Should be easy enough for plex to check XMLTV file for either a category field or Gracenote Programme ID and then use that infor to sort programmes into categories in the same way it does with Plex Guide.
Is there any updates on this? This feature would greatly improve the experience of Live TV when using our own providers instead of just Plex’s free Live TV.
I’m not a huge fan of the Plex request a feature system, so I doubt this will get any traction. People only get a certain amount of votes so they’re really cautious on what to vote on.
It is really really annoying now. I really think this would be easy to implement.
Even a reply from Plex as to whether or not this is on a development roadmap would be hugely appreciated.
Another year has passed. Having support for this feature would make browsing channels so much easier. Having some 350 channels but only being able to effectively watch the top few because it takes forever to scroll the list in the AppleTV app is just embarrassing.
