Various Artists has disappeared from my Music artists

Server Version#: 4.12.2

I have had “Various Artists” in my list of music artists since I installed Plex three years ago. The entries are stored in a directory called Various Artists. It has recently disappeared completely (the directory is still there) and a new library scan does not restore it. What has happened?

Check if it has become “Various”. It happened to me, and I discovered it by searching for anything with a word ‘various’ in it.

I don’t have Various either. Searching for “Various” throws up a few things in Podcasts but nothing in Music!

The new music system is kinda “bossy” and doesn’t always work the same way the old one did.

The files in your “Various Artists” folder might have been placed under the artist. Try looking for a missing track by the actual artist name or track title.

The new Plex music is particularly fussy about compilation albums. If you are using embedded metadata, the album artist has to be filled in (It can’t be blank, as it could be with the old system) AND the album artist has to be identical for every track on every album for it to work. The track artist can be whatever you want it to be.

Try looking for a track was good advice. All of my Various Artists albums has been credited to The Doors. Have renamed The Doors to Various Artists and then reassigned my single Doors album to The Doors. All is well for the moment.

Thanks for the help.

Does anyone know why this is happening? All new VA or unrecognized albums are coming up as John Digweed. It’s very strange!

My music worked very well before the update. So Plex makes no sense to me anymore. I am glad that I do not have an account for life.
