Version 1.11.0.4666 DVR Crashed Multiple Times

Plex Media Server Version 1.11.0.4666 running on Windows Server 2016

HD Home Run Prime Tuner

Crashed at 7pm when recordings started, restarted the Plex app, crashed again at 8pm when the next shows started.

Converted from Windows Media Center where we never had problems with recording, very frustrating to miss recordings.

Have logs corresponding to the 8pm crash - but unfortunately no crash reports got generated with a dmp of the crash

Do you have crash reporting enabled in server setting

The crash is a heap corruption crash

Check the crash reporting setting. Also after next crash do not restart the server but first see if there is a dmp file within the PLEX MEDIA SERVER folder below C:\Users\administrator.THEGRITTONS\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Crash Reports\1.11.0.4666-fc63598ba
If you find a dmp file, zip it and attach with a zip of the logs

Send crash reports to Plex is enabled

Same issue again tonight, right at the end of the recordings Plex server crashes (8pm and 9pm) and the recordings are no where to be found.

Crash dump directories were empty guessing I need to zip it before I start it again?

Attached updated logs if they help.

Thanks

I have the same issue- same error message with ntdll.dll as the culprit. Unfortunately wasn’t fast enough to get logs and such. Note this is on a new NUC-based W10 server I just built for DVR only.

Thanks - still no crash report being generated. Presume the entry in the event log is identical to the earlier one ? I mean exception 0xc0000374 ?

Could you establish if it is related to the number of recordings ? or overlap?
There were two activities coming to the end and one new one starting

Could you upload the logs zip please following a crash and the paste the windows application event logs text for the exceptions

I found a couple of links that lead to more information about crash reporting. This feature is not enabled by default.

https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/201455336-Crash-Logs-Plex-Media-Server

I’m going to kick off some test recordings to see if I can reproduce the error. We have 2 HD Home Run Prime Tuners but only record no more than 3 shows concurrently.

Recorded 3 - 30 minute shows from 8 to 8:30AM this morning with no issue. Now trying to 3 - 60 minute shows from 9 to 10AM.

You could try with the registry edits outlined on msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/bb787181(v=vs.85).aspx and see if we get a dmp file that way to go with the logs for the crash

Crashed at 10AM. Still no crash dump files. I’ll reboot and try to reproduce it again, maybe those settings don’t apply immediately.

I also included a screenshot of the 3 recordings back with 3 more the next hour.

Setup a new test from 12-1PM and 1PM to 2PM to reproduce the issue after rebooting. Will post results later this afternoon.

Crashed at 1PM and I got a crash dump but it is too big to upload in the forums (80MB zipped).

Rolling back to Plex-Media-Server-1.11.0.4633 to see if we can get recordings tonight.

Same issue at 5PM with version 1.11.0.4633. Rolling back to Version 1.10.1.4602 to see if the problem still exists, I know one of these last few version was working pretty reliably.

Could this be a database issue? Tempted to clear the user data and reinstall as I’m getting desperate for some sort of solution.

Thank you for getting the dmp file. I am passing it on to the development team. Unfortunately we do not have logs that go with the crash dump - because the crash was at 13:00 and the logs were captured at 15:36 and they filled up with the oldest log being from 13:13 !

Please let me know when you find a version that does not crash. The last time these heap corruption crashes were seen was in version 1.9.5 - so the issue must have got resolved and came back in a later version

Attached my Plex Logs as requested and filtered Event Logs on the server for application errors and confirmed it captured the Plex crashes, along with Transcoder crashes as well (wasn’t aware that was happening- maybe related?)

Let me know if you have questions, need additional info, or have steps to try?

Thanks for the help to get the diagnostics and isolate when the issue came back. Are you sure 1.10.1.4602 crashed with same heap corruption crash ? cannot find at this point any changes between 1.10.1.4561 and 1.10.1.4602 relating to this

Could you scan the event log Application Errors for exception 0xc0000374 and check the version numbers.
