Version 1.18.9.2571 - Unable to access server except from localhost

Short version: Updated to v1.18.9.2571 and was unable to access Plex from anywhere except localhost. No remote access, no clients of any sort on network. Server read as “unavailable”.

Solution: Check Windows Firewall. You’ll notice that for some reason Plex is now set to public only (no connection on domain or private network).

Caveats: I have Plex installed on a Server 2019 VM which might behave differently from Windows 10 or Server 2016.

I have the same problem. Accessible from localhost only after update.

Solved it for myself. I think the problem is with Windows Firewall.

Try:

  • remove all “Plex Media Server” Firewall rules
  • kill plex
  • start plex
  • Windows should ask you for firewall permission once again - enable/confirm.
  • should work after that

That works too, but for me, I was already in Windows Firewall, so I just set the appropriate permissions. No need to remove and re-add. Just checked two boxes and unchecked four (I don’t use DLNA or the tuner service).
