I know this is a very popular topic, but I’ve yet to find an answer to my situation. I’ve sifted through hundreds of different Plex FAQ’s regarding this issue trying almost every single one, but to no avail. The only one that actually did do a temporary fix until I disabled and reenabled remote access to see if it would be a permanent fix, was changing the DNS addresses in my router settings for the IPv6 to “8.8.8.8” and “8.8.4.4”.
Another thing that is quite odd to me, although I’m not sure if this happens to everyone that has this issue is that when I first enable remote access with/without a manually specified port and it connects for about a second and tells me it’s “Fully accessible outside your network” and then it switches back to “Not available outside your network.”
I’m running Windows Security v4.18.1812.3 and Malwarebytes Premium v3.6.1.2711 as my Antivirus software and firewalls. I’ve tried disabling both of the firewalls and interchanging them where one is on and the other is off vice versa. I’ve also tried disabling my router’s firewall against strong guidance not to do so because I am that desperate to figure this out. I’ve tried having both of them shut down completely, but nothing I seem to do wants to work. I’ve been at this for about the last 3 days trying to figure this out on my own, but I either don’t have the technical capacity to do so or I’m missing something completely here.
I’ve been in this situation since September 2017 and it hasn’t been an issue because all of my family and friends have been able to access the server still without any issues even though it says it isn’t available outside my network. Not sure why that is, but the only reason its becoming an issue now is that some of my friends have begun having issues getting in, such as it now only sometimes works instead of all the time. I love Plex and don’t want to leave especially since I’ve been a user/member for almost 2 years now and can’t imagine having to find a new media server platform to use, but if I can’t find a solution I don’t feel as if I have any other option.
