Vertical Videos Android TV

I only use Plex for watching home videos. Some of the videos are recorded vertically. If I just select to play them they are played sideways. If I click playback quality while it is playing, click convert automatically it will then play like you expect, a vertical video with big black on the sides but right side up. I change the default playback settings to be a lower quality hoping that would convert it and play it correctly but it doesn’t. I usually shuffle home videos and they are 30s long so I don’t want to have to go in and click the playback settings in each one. Are there any solutions?

I believe this has been around for some time. Video orientation in a home video is reflected in a technical parameter / tag of the video stream. The Android player seems to ignore this.

If you force the video to be transcoded (e.g. by setting a different playback quality), the video should play in the correct orientation (as the transcoder is considering the tag).

Unfortunately when I set it to transcode in the settings of the android TV it doesn’t seem to work. The only way it does work is if while it is already playing I click playback settings and change it then if does work. That is annoying to do though all the time.

Hopefully we can find some sort of solution soon.
