Really hoping some work gets done on this feature. Would really help simplify my life!
count me in.
People complaining about Live TV being in Plex HT should remember that Plex devs did very little for the feature.
90% of the effort was done by XBMC and Plugin developers. Martin ( forum member ) had to work through some roadblocks to enabled it in Plex HT which is based on XBMC.
Live TV in PMS would be great but from posts made by Plex dev's in the past years I dont believe it's going to happen in foreseeable future. Therefore Live TV in Plex HT is your best bet. ( although I"m still using MCE7 as XBMC Live TV is still not nearly as good as MCE7 )
+1 yes, please.
I'd agree with this if it were only for back-end support, or for just extending the PMS API to allow PVR "plugins" to extend TV libraries with custom actions/menu options for series, episodes, etc.
Adding PVR to the client, like has been done with Plex Home Theater, is, IMHO, the wrong direction to peruse. I signed up for Plex Pass to take a closer look at PHT, and was disappointed to see the direction it took.
I agree that it would be ideal to have LiveTV running on the backend as I also agree with you that the trend is moving away from high powered clients. I think the problem that you'd run into making it a backend process is that the backend would have to be seriously powerful to transcode MPEG2 streams on the fly for your Rokus, iPads, and Nexuses. I think a majority of users (I have no data on this) are using network tuners like the HDHomeRun or the Haupengauges that encode in MPEG2. While a medium end server might handle one transcode ok, having multiple streams running would create an environment of little use. Then you have to talk about the payback period of cordcutting versus the cost of the 16 core server you need to effortlessly serve your media, host your files, run your backups, record your programs, scrape your data, etc etc.
There are devices (included GoogleTV) that are licensed for Mpeg2. Probably most hardware in the last couple of years would handle Mpeg2 streams fine but companies are two cheap to shell out for the license (like DTS).
Samsung TV support many formats and are ideal for this. I would like to have livetv support so that I could have DVR features

I run a MythTV backend on my Plex box. I use that to record all my OTA shows. I then have a script that runs after each recording that renames the file to something friendly for Plex/XBMC/Boxee to scrape against. The same script then runs HandBrake to transcode to MP4 so that the recording can play on the Roku.
Since my Boxee Box has been discontinued, I have been focusing my efforts on Plex so that I am prepared for the day that my box dies. At $100, the Roku 3 appears to be a worthy successor. It's difficult to find an all-in one solution that has a high WAF (wife approval factor). She doesn't like a lot of button presses :)
Let’s get more likes on this one so we can (hopefully) get some traction for this feature! The more people like it the better chance it has to make it into a release.
Plus 1! Plus 1! Plus 1! Plus 1! Plus 1! Plus 1!
+1.. EyeTV support could be thrown in etc.. whichever is the most supported TV solution via plex.
I think this is one of the most important features.. DVB-TV via PMS would be pure awesomeness for Mobile-Devices.
But i think the PlexDevelopers are focusing on other, also important features first.
anyway, i think implementing support for a TV-Backend like for example DVBLink / TVheadend wouldn't be that hard... so maybe we get surprised some day.
Also Tobias Hieta said "I won't confirm/deny"
I am running mythtv backend and than using the scripts as noted above so that plex can scrape.
It would be great if there was deeper integration somehow between the two because than it might be able to support features like commercial skip or automatically expiring recordings. Also I would LOVE the ability to watch a recording in progress.
There are many shows I like to record but I dont want to keep them all. Especially stuff that gets recorded daily.
At the very least there are APIs to get schedule info for mythtv.
+1
yes please!
I would love to see support for Argus-Tv (a very powerful PVR backend with great options for advanced scheduling).
Being able to finally quit MediaPortal for good would be amazing (no bad feelings about MP, I just really loathe having to use 2 different programs).
I really dont care what backend they choose or if they come up with their very own as long as Plex does LiveTV before LiveTV apps make Media Server app :-)
