[Very Popular] Live TV support in Plex (Media Server)

There are a few things Plex is missing and that is live TV. I use W7 MCE and it works great. I have comskip and everything going. I think that if there Plex were to integrate with Ceton MyMediaCenter or RecordedTV HD they would get the meta data and probably be able to setup recordings and such. The only thing i don't have a clue about is comskip.

Hi

Just discovered this thread. Great news :)

I am using a mac mini with PMS and the mac client.

Can I run this plex client alongside the stabel plex client?

I have used xbmc with addons for dreambox and dvblink. Is it possible to use these pvr addons for plexpvr also?

Thanks a lot :)

If the Addons you mentioned are available in xbmc as pvraddons, they should work just fine with PlexPvr. Also, I'm using PlexPvr and have a copy of PMC installed on the same Mac mini, with no problems.

I too have Windows Media Center and only use it now for recording Live Tv. Would love to ditch that for a pure Plex experience.

I use WMC and think that is the best recording solution out there. I use Plex to play everything else. I would be fine with using WMC as the recorder but be able to play everything with show info and comskip info. Eventually as MS decides what the future of the product is then do a recorder of Plex own. To me the biggest thing would be Comskip and Show info.

  • 1 this would be great Would love to be away and watch a hockey game that’s not broadcasted in the area that I’m in.

Yes, this this this. Please Plex give me reason to ditch Windows Media Center. Get Live TV + DRM support for CableCard setups and all of us that are hanging on to Windows Media Center will switch exclusively to Plex. Make it exclusive to PlexPass to fund it - I think you'll find a boatload of new subscribers - those who set up WMC have no problem spending some money to avoid the ridiculous cable box rental and DVR fees.

Count me in on this request.

Fingers Crossed.  :)

i read something, that PMS-LiveTV is already possible with DVBLink - but only for Clients who doesn't need to transcode. So NOT transcoded transport streams seems to be working. So it should work for PHT, or not?!

Did anybody tried some clients yet?

But to make it work for all clients we still need transcoding of transport streams , so please vote for it

Pretty much every client i can think of supports h264 - 4.1@Baseline w/ MP3 audio all wrapped in a MPEG-TS. While i know we all hate MP3 for sound, it is simple and practically universally supported. Is there anyway to get the PVR Backend to do the transcoding before shipping it off to Plex?

well i think u have to ask this one of the DVBLink developers .. :/

I'm not using a LiveTV recording setup right now but I've been looking at it as a way to ditch my DVR and Cable Boxes. I would love to strictly use the "Plex Experience" as I like to call it!

A friend of mine pointed this out. Sounds like someone is working on an XBMC WMC tools. I won't have time to test it but it sounds awesome.

I will be looking forward to this being added Plex.

Recorded and Live TV is one of the big things missing.

Live TV support built in as a Plex channel/option would be fantastic, it is the only thing missing from Plex. If Plex supports it I could ditch the BT Vision box and just use a Roku. The ability to select TV channels to watch, setup TV recordings (including series link) and possibly integrate the search so it includes recorded tv and what is currently live.

I don't care if it is MythTV, TVHeadend or something you cook up yourselves, if you guys want to pay for it through a kick starter I would gladly chip in.

I've been using PlexPVR (Thanks Martin) for many months now.  And I have to say that I haven't experienced any bugs or issues that are not part of the issues everyone else using PHT has commented on; so it seems that the code is very stable. Has there been any progress on integrating these functions with PMS?  I know that there would be a ton of development needed to create software that works internationally and complies with DRM standards; but I had this idea of moving the XBMC PVR plugins from client to the server.

It seems that the base XBMC that PHT is based on has all of the framework of interfacing with different plugins for both configuration and operation.  What if that framework was integrated into the server?  Then the server would be creating the bridge for clients to talk to the PVR software and possibly transcode the output.  I know that this is still not a single, unified solution; but with so many broadcast, drm, and other standards to contend with I think that it would be quite awhile before we saw a PLEX Tuner/DVR solution; and I'd like to see this feature officially supported and developed by the team.  In terms of media delivery, this is a major source of content that has not been addressed yet on the server side.

Thanks!

Would love to see such a feature for PMS, since it would simplify support vs supporting all the various client types.

TV support is the one big thing Plex is missing.
