Very simple use of Windows Plex media server with Apple TV

I am very new to Plex.

I have a very simple requirement, and that is to access a single folder on my main desktop computer using an Apple TV to display some video files on a remote TV.

During the installation of the Windows Plex Media Server I see that “Plex scans your media, automatically organizes it, and makes it beautiful”. That kinda scares the hell out of me!

I don’t want my computer scanned, indexed and made beautiful, I just want to select a single folder. So, before I set things in motion, do I get the option to do what I want or am going to get a very large but very beautiful indexed file wether I want one or not?

Don’t let it scan everything. Create one library of the type of files you have (TV shows or Movies for example). Aim that library at your folder. Done.

Thanks, I was hoping that it would be that simple.

When I saw that dialog box come up, my reaction was the same as yours. The hell you do. For one thing, Lord knows WHAT it would find. LOL!
So yeah, just set up as many libraries as you need (I have dozens broken out by topic and file type) and aim them at folders with those things in them.

Yeah, that seems to work OK. Am now playing around with nested directories with mixed results. Need to do some more work on that.
