Very Slow process of adding tv series to plex when running scan library files

Server Version#: Version 4.51.3
Player Version#: Not sure

Hey Guys,

What use to be a quick procedure of scanning library files for a TV series no matter how many episodes and seasons use to be at a great speed

Now, it takes 2x or 3x as long, does the job but much longer as the activity circle icon on top spins and spins and spins

Again, does the jobe but slowly

Fast CPU, great internet, plenty of hard drive space too.

File types are either .264 mkv or mp4 (with mp4 not sure if its .264 if that matters when scanning)

Anything I can do?

Thanks guys!

Are you referring to the actual scan or the fact that it keeps spinning?
If there’s new files added, Plex will be quite busy detecting intros of those episodes – this will take quite some time, even if the files themselves have already been added and downloaded all metadata.

You can click the activity circle to see what it’s doing.

Thanks for the quick replies!

Yes I am referring to the activity icon. Just keeps spinning more than I am use to though like mentioned after metadata downloaded.

EDIT…5 minutes after meta is there, it still says detecting intros

2nd edit Make that 10 minutes

No biggie just was curious

Thanks!
Jeff

After adding 60 TV episodes, and meta data there, is 15 minutes of spinning and saying detecting intros normal?

Not unheard of… really depends on the # of different shows/seasons and how fast your CPU actually is.

You can move the detection of intros and the generation of preview thumbnails into the server maintenance period.
Which of course means these will be only available with a delay of ~1 day.
But the speed of library scans will be as it was before these features were introduced.
