For several versions of PMS I have been suffering from the TV Shows Library being scanned over & over. The scan is very slow as well, and it takes the CPU to 95-100% utilisation continuously.
The TV files are on an external Windows server share, accessed over SMB.
There are 18973 episodes in the Library.
What other information is needed to troubleshoot this situation?
There is something wrong with the scanner or whatever. I’ve not seen this behaviour before. When a new episode is added to a TV Show folder, PMS appears to re-scan the whole show.
This image shows page 34 of 50 for the Alerts, just after a new episode of House Rules (AU) S08E28 was added to the library (actually added at 12h30). So while PMS was still scanning the entire Library (e.g. X-Files), it detected the new episode, and started scanning the entire HR (AU) folder - all seasons:
On page 29 you can see Season 07 was scanned & processed:
Is some other process scanning/modifying the file system, making Plex think the library has been updated?
Maybe check Settings -> Library for library scan interval or other settings that might cause such behaviour.
To diagnose, turn off things such as scan for intros, auto scan, scan on changes, etc. See when the scanning stops. That will help determine where the problem lies.
That’s all I can think of. But honestly, I’m grasping at straws. I don’t see anything close to this with my server. I admittedly have just a couple hundred TV episodes, not 18K+.
Maybe pull log files and post to the thread. No idea what to look for in the logs. Maybe somebody will see something. Make sure you’re set for debug logs. Verbose causes the logs to wrap quickly and desired info is lost.
