Very slow response from my Plex media server on DS216J. Consider upgrading

Server Version#: 1.24.1.4931
Player Version#: latest iOS iPad, iPhone and Windows 10 versions

Hello,

I’m currently running my Plex server on a DS216J Synology NAS. For the time being I’m only streaming music, something that I thought was going to be easier for the NAS than a movie.

Now I still see a very slow response from the Plex server. It can take anywhere from 30 sec and upwards before I am able to choose what music to listen to. Too often I just give up and go do something else…

I was wondering if this can be the cause of the NAS itself or could it be something else?

I’m considering upgrading to a DS220+, DS720+, DS420+ or a DS920+

Would such an upgrade solve the issue, and would such a NAS also be capable of streaming movies at high picture and audio quality?

I reinstalled the Plex server again just a few days ago and started adding media from scratch. I have no more than about 1500 music files at this time.

I will need to come back to you with the logfiles as I am currently traveling.

Generally though I feel the NAS itself is very slow. Therefore I primarily do not not suspect the Plex server to be the main issue here.

It can take a long time opening an application in the NAS. Indexing takes ages, and while indexing the system is basically useless for anything else.
While doing backup tasks it can also be difficult getting things done…

This in turn have to have an impact on the Plex server as well…
