I have a setup that consists of several nas's. Is there a way to have plex use a different http link for a specific folder to play the media? I dont' see a reason to wrap it through the plex server when it works fine direct.
Hmm.. I have one NAS per category of files (movies/series/music/animes) with one PMS for each, and they all are displayed in PLEX as they are all on the same network. So I can navigate from movies to series to animes without doing anything else than just using my Plex player.
Is that what you asked?
Ismelda, Why did you setup multiple PMS? it actually sounds a little good to me now that I have remote users. I’d be able to take down each section one at a time to work on if needed. It would be more work and resources (even if the PMS is in a virt.
In regards to initial question, I believe op was asking to direct stream from NAS, nas -> client, instead of stream going nas -> plex -> client. So pretty much take plex out of the path once a user has selected the video. Sadly I don’t have any answer for this…
Correct, i'm trying to get PMS running from 1 nas to tell the client the http url for 2 other nas's when the videos are played from them. This way I can have 1 large database but have all videos be nas->client. The hard part of mounts and http streaming is already existing, just need a way to give an alternative play url for the folders added into the libraries.
Well I have one PMS on each of my NAS as QNAP NAS don’t see other NAS when adding library to Plex.
Having more than one PMS also allow more flexibility as each is independent from the other, meaning they all can be updated at the same time while if they were all on the same PMS you could only update one library at a time. This way I can add a movie, an episode from a series and another from an anime and have them all updated at the same time on the PMC/PHT.
Morever, if one PMS is acting up, the others are still working and i can still watch some media. And also the database to manage is smaller and thus easier to handle. As they all get centralized in the PMC/PHT in the end, there is no reason why not using separate server. Also think of the children and have all the media you don’t want them to see on one server. Just turning off this server allows you to protect them.
And finally, when managing your PMS, you still can access them all in the web client so there is no constraint at all but only advantages as far I can tell.
