I have my home videos set up on plex. They have been on plex for several years. Last week, I joined many MTS files to make one larger file for certain video events. After doing this and rescanning the folders, plex is now displaying the files twice. Looking in the file directories on windows file explorer, there is only one file.
At the moment we can only guess…
Here’s two from the top of my head:
Could be your new file is an mp4 file with embedded metadata that causes Plex to create a collection for the item (resulting in the library showing 1 collection with 1 member and the movie on its own (-> Album metadata tag)
Could be the old file is still linked to your library and will go away when you trigger Empty Trash from the library actions.
Empty trash was triggered with no luck. Your 1st point makes sense. These are MTS files, do you know how I could fix the 1 collection with 1 member and the video on it’s own?
That depends… is the “duplicate” entry you see in your library a collection?
If it’s a 2nd movie – check > Info to compare the paths associated with both movies and check if they’re absolutely identical.
It looks like I don’t have any collections. I’m not clear on your comment about a 2nd movie. Looking on my NAS, there is only one file per movie. I can play each on the duplicates on PLEX.
Interesting, the paths are not identical. Paths are below. What does that indicate and how can I fix this. Also how can I keep it from happening when I join more videos?
Then you have 2 copies of the same home video. By default, home videos aren’t combined the same way movies and TV shows are merged. You can choose to either
Keep one… meaning you’ll delete one of the versions. (Provided you verify that it is the same video)
Keep both as different versions. Makes sense if they have different resolutions. To do this, you’ll have to select both videos (hover over the poster and click the circle). From the 3 dot menu that appears at the top, click “Merge”. They will now be seen as 2 versions of the same file and you’ll only see one entry going forward.
Interesting, thanks for the link. I ssh’d into the NAS and could see that folder but it’s locked up tight. I’m going to have to get into it and have a look. Thank you for all the help.
