We were watching Prime Suspect 1973 and halfway through the 5th episode it froze, then gave the error message. I tried 4 times to get it to continue but it wouldn’t. I gave up and we watched something else, but I tried again the next day and got the same result. I’m using Chromecast and it is only 5 months old. Any thoughts?
is this about a show from Plex’s video-on-demand or are you streaming from a local/shared server?
do you experience this behavior only with the Chromecast or other clients too?
Streaming but not sure how shared this is. I only use Chromecast for all my streaming and Plex is the ONLY thing this has happened with. I use PBS Passport and others with no problems, why is Plex the only thing that is screwing up?
Check out whose library it is. If it’s yours, check if the file itself is ok. If it’s a shared library of a friend, as them to verify.
I have ZERO idea what you are talking about.
I was following up to your statement.
You previously wrote it’s a specific file that keeps getting stuck. Hence my question if you can verify the underlying file is actually okay.
What FILE? I am trying to watch an episode of a tv show.
There’s many ways how to watch media via Plex, e.g.
- the free ad-support video-on-demand and live-tv-streaming online sources offered by Plex
- media hosted on your own personal Plex Media Server
- media from shared libraries hosted on a friend‘s Plex Media Server
Any thoughts/advice will heavily depend on what you’re trying to stream… that’s why I’ve been bugging you for a clarification.
I use the free ad-supported on-demand video. Nothing is hosted on my computer, I get my streaming services through the internet provider Xplornet (a satellite internet service).
I am TRYING to stream episodes 5 and 6 of Prime Suspect 1973.

@kathryn227, you mentioned that “halfway through the 5th episode it froze, then gave the error message”. Can you help us investigate by providing some additional details, please?
- What was the exact, full error message you received?
- Where in the episode did you encounter the issue? (e.g. 36min 23sec into it)
- Which Plex player app were you using? (e.g. https://app.plex.tv/desktop, https://watch.plex.tv/, Roku, Android mobile, etc.)
- Do you get the same behavior in the same place in the episode when using a different player app?
I use Chromecast. I do not remember the exact time it froze. I have no idea what you mean by ‘different player app’. I can try it again this evening and I will mark down the time it freezes. I ONLY have Chromecast.
In addition to Chromecast, you could try playing the episode on a different Plex app to see if you get the same behavior at the same point. For instance:
But even if you don’t try on a different player app (which would be useful), if you can let us know the exact error message you receive and the time it occurs in the episode, that would help us try and reproduce the issue to investigate. Thanks!
I tried playing it last night and it stopped in exactly the same spot. Instead of an error message it just cut out after freezing. I couldn’t even get it to tell me what time was on the video.
