Video hangs transcoding subtitles on Amazon Firestick 4K

Server Version#: 1.27.2.5929
Player Version#: Latest for Android Firestick

Whenever I try to play a file with EAC3 audio and subtitles (SRT), the video hangs indefinitely trying to buffer. Below are debug, but not verbose, logs from trying to load the video. I’ve tried it in about 20 different files, and that’s the only thing I can find in common. My partner has trouble hearing, so subtitles are definitely something I want to be able to use consistently.

Trying to figure out if my computer is too slow and needs an upgrade, or if it’s something with the Firestick and that combination. Help! Plex is a bit smarter than I am, but I’m pretty good at directions. I’ve got the debug log below for ~90 seconds of it trying to buffer.

In the future, please attach the entire ZIP file to the thread. Snippets of log files make it more difficult to determine what is happening.

The server is transcoding the EAC3 audio and direct streaming the video and subtitles.

The FireStick 4K should direct play EAC3 audio, even if that format is not supported by the TV/soundbar/etc.

Check the FireStick 4K and Plex app audio settings. Make sure something is not forcing the transcode.

My setup:

FireStick 4K <–HDMI–> Vizio TV (too old to support EAC3)

FireStick 4: Settings → Audio → Surround Sound = Best Available
Plex app: Settings → Advanced → Passthrough = HDMI

Tautulli status screen:

You are a lifesaver. For some reason, my Firestick was set to Optical instead of HDMI. Switched that up and now it is chugging right along.

Thank you!
