Please excuse me if this was asked before, but I still can’t find the answer to my issue. The problem with my Plex setup is that video is constantly stuttering and buffering although there’s plenty of bandwidth on both server and client.
My Plex Server is running on Windows Server 2019, it’s connected wired to my router. The router is configured to port forward Plex server.
The transcoding is disabled on the server, so the videos are always streaming in original quality. A speed test on the server shows 60+ Mbps of upload speed and the video files I’m streaming are about 25Mbps of bitrate (HEVC 4K HDR DV), so there shouldn’t be any bottleneck here from the bandwidth perspective.
Nobody in my household is using the bandwidth, in particular I was testing in the early morning when they’re all sleeping.
On the client I’m trying to stream on iPhone 14 Pro Max with Plex iOS client over 5G connection. A quick speed test connection brings me easily 350-400Mbps of 5G download, so here as well, there’s no bottleneck.
Still the video constantly stutters, buffering and the app tells me that my server doesn’t have enough bandwidth to stream the video. So it plays 2-5 seconds and then buffers, so can’t watch it.
Needless to say that video plays back smoothly when streaming over WiFi in the same network as server is hosted.
Is there a hidden setting somewhere or something I’m missing in the config of the server/router that can limit the max bandwidth?
Thanks!
