Files will play but skip terribly. Not sure if this was related to a recent update on the server software/player software or the Chromcast in general.
It seems as if its an issue locally. none of my users report any issues with any of the streams on their end.
For example I have a local copy of the movie Greenland. I have a trailer and pre-roll schedule before any movies (cause that’s a cool feature) then my file starts. Attached are the raw log files and then some filtered just to the device itself filtered by IP.
I can recreate this issue with almost any file, including recorded Live TV. Happy to provide log files for my girls Dr Phil episodes.
Here are a couple more instances.
Since my lst post I did the following steps. No change in behavior
Uninstalled/Reinstalled Plex on the device
Reset Chrome Cast
Put Chromecast in to Apps Only mode (which is really cool)
Installed Plex
Turned on Network Logging
Enabled/Disabled HDMI Pass through
Disabled/Enabled New Player
Tested with a second Chromecast and same issue
Did some more network logging as previously requested
To be fair a couple things played fine: My local Drone footage and for some reason the TV Show Below Deck.
No idea what they could have in common. If you can help I would appreciate it. I am having this issue on multiple Chromecast with Google TV so I dont think its something I have done.
I’ve looked into your logs and I do see that the app is loosing the connection to your server. It is able to recover and reconnect, but this interruption is causing the skipping. Have you tried resetting your router? That might help.
It ONLY happens with the new Chromecast which is hard wired. I kept my old Chromecast Ultras (also hard wired) and set one of them back up and it works great. This issue is specific to something that changed in the software of the new Chromecast with Google TV.
Just for fun however I did reset it and the issue persists with only the Chromecast with Google TV. My Chromecast Ultra and even my first Gen CC work just fine on the same files. IF there is a way to get logs from those devices let me know and I am happy to provide them.
The older Chromecasts devices can only be used as casting destinations. It can’t run the actual Plex app. Can you try casting to the new Chromecast like you do with the older ones? Do you see the issue then?
Welllll I got frustrated and rebuilt the server from scratch. Everything works fine now
Wish I had backed up the user meta data info. It was neat to watch my user patterns. didnt think I could have higher traffic than in the June/July time frame with the first lockdown in the US. Then a HUGE pop over Thanksgiving
