This morning I could not get any device, phone, tablet, or computer to connect to my Google Nest Hub Max or any Chromecast.
I restarted my phone.
I uninstalled/reinstalled Plex on my phone.
I reset my router.
I reset the Nest Hub Max. I reset a Chromecast.
Still nothing works. It connects for 1 second and then says “unable to connect”.
YouTube from any device can connect just fine. This must be an issue with the Plex software.
Same here, there’s another topic underneath the media server forum. None of my Chromecasts will let me cast Plex to them anymore, as of sometime earlier today. They just immediately say unable to connect, and “Something Went Wrong”
Considering everything else I’ve tried casting seems to still work (twitch, deezer, etc), this feels like it probably is a Plex problem. However I didn’t update Plex or anything, so I’m not sure what could have changed in the last 4 hours that would cause it to suddenly be able to not communicate with Chromecast ( or Chromecast similar devices, like Wiim)
Lots of things. SSL could have expired (I think this happened last time). Google’s edge firewalls could have blocked the Plex API. The app it self could be flagged as ‘untrusted’ by some kind of automation. Pretty much any automation for traffic and abuse could have been triggered on both the Plex or Google side. Internet things.
I know this is not a thread to report all sorts of bugs, but there is a quite annoying issue regarding Plex with Chromecast that’s been going on for a long time.
When you disconnect casting from the Plex Android app, then the Plex idle screen will remain on the Chromecast device (instead of going back to the picture slide show). Furthermore If you have CEC enabled and change the TV source after doing the disconnect, then the Chromecast will trigger a source change a while later when it eventually times out to bring itself back into focus, thus interrupting whatever source you changed to previously, or even power on the TV if it’s been turned off before the timeout occured.
Thanks for the quick fix! Though it does beg the question, why a cloud update could break something that’s running on a local NAS in my house, streaming to a local Chromecast in my house
@dragongod8 From what I understand it’s sort of similar to what happened to the Chromecast when the Gen 2 outage happened. There’s something that happens with Google that authenticates the client and allows you to cast using their service. This is a very dumbed down, lay-person explanation. I’m probably messing this up a bit but that’s my basic understanding.
I spoke with Google today before I saw that you mentioned it was an issue on your end. Their apps are working fine and show no issues on their end. Looks like Plex works on my Chromecasts, but still isn’t working with my Google Nest Hub Max. Any patches for that?
