Correct, that’s the same for my 2019 with 7.24. The video stutters but the sound continues.
In the 2017er with 7.23 behaves differently - as described by me.

It should mean “except fast-forward”.
Here I have found another thread:
No news, no opinion and no solution currently.
Why the Plex team does not comment, I do not understand.
Unfortunately, to my personal opinion the Plex team responses rather rarely to non-mainstream topics.

Please don’t get me wrong, I certainly appreciate the daily efforts but this issue seems to be known and old.
Hopefully, someone of the team picks up this topic.
Let us push this topic!
On topic:
I noticed that transcoding is an solution but then the client transcodes video + audio. Consequently, HDR is lost
Unfortunately, with ne new beta the described issue is still not fixed.
Does anyone else of you guys also experience it?
Correct, the issue does not appear to be resolved yet.
no android tv logs and no samples to replicate the issue
if you want to send me a link to the sample or original file, i will do it for you
Thank you for your response!
but I posted a sample video above ![]()
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1xpE1Mm3QQtBJV1UgoLgOIu-4rzH3REiH/view
Posting the original video is possible but if you do not have the same setup you probably will not replicate the issue.
However, if you need it, please let me know - please give me some hours to manage it.
Should I send you the link via private message ?
this is not a sample of the file - its a video you took on your phone? of the problem, it is not the same thing
Got it!
(yes, it’s a video taken by my mobile)
But as I said - you probably won’t be able to replicate it. However, I’ll post the same snippet as original video so that you can look whether you can replicate the issue. Please give me some hours (I just went to bed)
why do you think i wont be able to replicate? does this file work on older model shields and all other android tvs? have you tested all these combinations?
so you know 100% its only a SHIELD 2019 issue and no other devices have the issue?
Hm ok sir! Got it. It’s not what you say, but how you say it… I didn’t want to annoy you. I certainly don’t know whether it is a 2019 specific issue.
my thought is that different setup leads to different outcomes.
Furthermore, KCX also mentioned that it seems to be a Shield specific issue and he also experiences it with the 2017 version.
Anyway, I’ll post the snippet and we will see what you say
i was trying to be polite - but your logic is flawed
make sure when you create the sample, you test the sample in plex and make sure the sample has the same problem, as sometimes that sample creation process i linked to you above may correct the issue
PM me the link to the sample when you have it and if i have the same problem on my shields or sony android tv i will bring it to the dev’s attention with logs.
Here is a sample file with DD+ 7.1 audio:
dropbox link
google drive
Video stutters for me but the audio seems fine.
I have noticed that similar files which exhibit this behavior seem to have at least one thing in common. Mediainfo shows that they have format profile: blu-ray disc under the audio properties. Other videos using e-ac3 but without this “format profile” are working correctly for me. I don’t know the significance of this profile or if it has any connection to the issue. Anyone else having problems might take a second to check though. The sample file has no issues when played in Kodi (2019 Shield) and on the Apple TV 4K with Infuse app.
I’m using a LG C9 TV and all devices have ethernet connectivity.
PMS 1.18.2.2015-5a99a9a46 (Synology)
Plex beta version 7.24.0.13560
Shield Android TV version 8.1.0(32.7.301.38) Hotfix image
Thank you! Good sample.
I also will add another one from me later this day.
@dan-the-man I also created an example:
Here is the link to Google Drive: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1SzsdHitS3u8AeeFCPusPux_G2n7xq18_
This example has problems with all Plex Android versions. Public and Beta. No matter if Shield 2017 or 2019.
In the 2019er works the sound but the video stutters as in the smartphone video of @TobyX.
In the 2017er that runs correctly. BUT you can not go forward or rewind, or stop and continue.
@dan-the-man
So you now have at least 3 samples.
As I promised, here is my sample file:
Its the same snipped as I filmed with my mobile so that you can compare it.
It contains the same audi/video settings as the original what I try to play via Plex on my Shield TV 2019.
Here are some further information for your documentation:
PMS: 1.18.2.2029 running on Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS (GNU/Linux 4.15.0-66-generic x86_64), Intel Core i7-8700 Hexa-Core with 64GB DDR4 RAM
Client is the Android App (Beta) on the Shield TV 2019: 7.25.0.13841
Thank you very much.
I just connected the 2017 Shield to a 1080p TV. The transcoding in 1080p does not work. The sound is running but the image is black with pixel errors. I try to rewind, it hangs completely.
The video is detected by Plex also wrong. He shows 5.1 although it is 7.1.

Your test file will be recognized by me as 7.1.

But even this is not played correctly and has the same problems as the example of Toby and me.
@KCX
did you also test my sample?
I have the same problem with yours
