Video stuttering when using DD+/EAC3 Audio on Shield TV Pro (2019)

@TobyX yes i test it. Same Problem. Plex detected also as 5.1

I have another example in the folder. This time a 1080p x264 with DD + 7.1

This video is different. You can not fast forward or stop it and continue at a later time.
The example also contains another DTS soundtrack. This runs without any problems - as a counter sample.

It is again wrongly recognized as 5.1

Hi Toby and KCX, just wanted to let you both know that I tested your samples and they did not play correctly for me either. The same video stutter.

Dan replied to my PM last night and said he’d pass the new info to the developers when they’re back to work on Monday. We’ll just have to be patient and let them investigate now

ok thanks for the samples, all have the same issue, seems the format of the video isnt relevant, happens on both h264 and HEVC with that type of audio

massive amounts of video frames get dropped during playback on those samples

-they play fine on VLC with full hardware decoding enabled and Video player on the SHIELD
-happens on both the old and new video player
-video will play fine if audio is transcoded (i know that defeats the purpose)

i will do my best to bring this to the devs whom work on the video side of android on monday on your behalf. checking my collection i dont seem to have any 8 channel (7.1) EAC3 content so i guess i dont have this issue myself

Many thanks for your efforts!
We’ll be patient.

I have reproduced this with content remuxed direct from disc. I will share the sample with the dev team.

If you watch your videos in english, you have less of a problem. Other languages get a DD+ track instead of TrueHD or a high res instead of DTS-HD Master.

Here is an example of a current disc:

Audio: English / Dolby TrueHD/Atmos Audio / 7.1 / 48 kHz / 4916 kbps / 24-bit *
(AC3 Embedded: 5.1 / 48 kHz / 640 kbps / DN -4dB)*
Audio: English / Dolby Digital Audio / 2.0 / 48 kHz / 320 kbps / DN -4dB*

Audio: French / Dolby Digital Plus Audio / 7.1 / 48 kHz / 1024 kbps
(DD+ Embedded: 5.1 / 48 kHz / 576 kbps)*
Audio: German / Dolby Digital Plus Audio / 7.1 / 48 kHz / 1024 kbps
(DD+ Embedded: 5.1 / 48 kHz / 576 kbps)
Audio: Italian / Dolby Digital Plus Audio / 7.1 / 48 kHz / 1024 kbps
(DD+ Embedded: 5.1 / 48 kHz / 576 kbps)

Exactly as @KCX stated.

WoW, after such a long time finally someone from the team responded xD

I have both models of the shield TV (2017 + 2019).
As all stated, on first model MKV + DD+ + 7.1 runs fine until you seek…
On the second model picture is stuttering, but audio runs fine, even on seek.
If i deactivate audio passthrough in plex the DD+ stream is PCM/Dolby Surround and picture runs fine again.
But that isn’t a solution at all.
Looking forward for a response from the team if they could find that annoying bug.

Greetings from a billing Plex pass user.

Any news from the developers on that issue?

they have various samples and the log and acknowledged the info we gave them about this issue, as to when they will actually look into fixing this, couldnt tell you. suspect they have alot of on their plate with the new player and other issues in the beta’s atm

Yes, I can understand if the Plex Devs just have much to do. Two new shields, new Dolby Vision, new player etc.

BUT this problem is old and has not been commented yet. I have not found a thread on the topic by responding to it. Where is the problem to comment briefly.

We do the work of explaining and describing everything. Spot the problem, create test videos, and be ready to answer any questions. The whole thing costs us time and annoying. Why not take two minutes to tell us what’s going on?

we just have to tread on them over and over again.
Bumping this topic at least once a week :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

btw, its slightly another topic but, however, some of you guys experienced similar issues:
I just found out that MP4 single(!!!)-layer DV videos + 7.1 DTS-HD-MA do not work on the shield TV 2019.
After a while buffering the whole app crashes and restarts (a small window pops up aking me whether I want to send a crash report and thats it). Does someone want to have a snippet, just tell me

start a new thread about it, add a sample to reproduce + the log from the plex app immediatly after it crashed

I just followed your advice

Hello

Shield 2017 user here, Server on Syno DS918+; same issue as others with sample or movies I have at hand, audio in TRUEHD 7.1/DTS 5.1/Whatever runs perfectly.
Whenever I switch to audio EAC3; I get audio running properly but image shuttering like hell. Different movies etc : same issue. On KODI, same Shield, runs properly :frowning: but I like Plex experience way more :frowning:

Any clue on what’s happening would be perfect!

thanks !

Bil

Exact same issue here. Seriously? It seems like his has been a problem since circa 2017!
TRUEHD 7.1 / it’s a horrible experience on any shield. PLEASE HELP

We will have to wait until we fetch one of the dev’s attention… there is no other way. Some very helpful guys (many thanks to @dan-the-man) already sent the devs logs + samples.
We have to be patient… I’m afraid but I expect that we will have to wait for an answer a long time because the present issue is not new… accordingly, it seems that it has no major priority for the devs.
Please be patient!
In the meantime you are invited to post your own samples + logs to backup our call for bug fix :slightly_smiling_face:

+1 Same issue here
