Video stuttering when using DD+/EAC3 Audio on Shield TV Pro (2019)

My setup: latest Beta (7.24.0.13532) on Shield TV Pro 2019 + Panasonic GZ2000
Shield is connected via Ethernet (Lan)
Using HDMI 2.1 cable

Whenever I play videos with DD+/EAC3 audio the video starts (micro) stuttering but audio is smooth.
No transcoding (due to the fact that not necessary because my setup fully supports it) -> direct play.

Is there something I did wrong or missed to configure.

Thank you

I was told that DD+ might lead to major problems with respect to the Nvidia Shield TV.

A current workaround is to switch the audio to another language with no DD+ … But obviously, that’s not a final solution

if you turn off the new player in the settings, do you have the same problem?

Thank you for your help.
Turning off the new player leads to no stuttering any longer. But now the complete video gets transcoded - no HDR. :unamused:

ah

posting logs from the SHIELD and creating and uploading sample can help to get the right attention… (make sure the sample has the same problem)

I can confirm that issue. Also with my Shield Pro with the newest BETA the same problems occur with EAC3 (DD+).

Thank you for your reply. I will create such an sample, however, what about copyright restrictions? Am I allowed to cut out only the production company “intro video”?
Furthermore, just uploading the video snippet may produce no problems on your device because you might use a different platform (e.g. Sony Android TV).

How can I extract the logs from my Shield TV?

I also have the problem with DD + 7.1. But that was already the case with the Shield 2017. It always seemed to me like the Exoplayer does not support DD + it 7.1.

Dont work with Plex Shield App - is at the 2017er but synonymous

Okay guys. I decided not to post the original file since I would expect that it is senseless because not everyone has a Shield TV and that would mean that perhaps someone will not be able to replicate the problem.
Here is a short snippet just of the production company intro video as I do not want to violate copyrights (sorry for bad quality but I hope that it demonstrates the problem):

If you need more details, please feel free to comment on that post

Edit:
Is a general problem of the Shield TV what should be fixed by Nvidia or by Plex developers with respect to their app?

That’s exactly how it is with me. DD + with 7.1 does not run

Try to install Kodi, configure, install Plex Addon, configure und Play DD+ 7.1. Ist a Woraround but its works. Plex Android App (Exoplayer) unfortunately can not handle it!?

I actually use the Exoplayer.
The kodi workaround should work - I’ll test that but it’s not a final solution.
But thank you. I report about it.

Could one of the developers please an opinion on that problem and will it be fixed by Plex (or by Nvidia)?

I had forgotten … It is a problem of MKV in connection with 7.1 DD+. In M2TS format it will play correctly and without problems.

So it’s the combination of MKV, Plex App (Exoplayer) and EAC3 7.1

… so you would suggest to convert it into m2ts? (If that is actually possible)

There is no other choice except Plex or Nvidia fix that. Another possibility is to convert the DD+ track into a DTS HD Master. Then you can play MKVs. But currently you have to convert it or just use the Kodi workaround.

With Plex 7.23 Shield 2017 EAC3 worked fine (expect FF). There was no stuttering with EAC3 7.1 + MKV + ExoPlayer.
With Plex 7.24b and Shield 2019 Pro I cant watch movies with EAC3 7.1, because the picture is stuttering, but the sound is fine.

Ok. That strongly sounds like a Plex’ side issue/bug.
That’s an important point as it worked perfect but something broke… it might be easy to fix it.

Does someone of developers have an idea?

What do you mean by “expect FF” ?

I also have the 2017er. There, the DD + 7.1 MKVs are running, BUT as soon as you fast forward or back, or stop the video and start again, it hangs up. So yes, it runs on the 2017er, but not right. I have this confirmed by several people and I have a lot of examples here.

Edit: I try to create an example in the next time.

Interesting…
In my case it’s not only about stopping and resuming… the video is stuttering from the beginning on while the audio is smooth (see example above).
